Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse is pleased to host Breath of the Earth, an afternoon of poetry by Cindy Rinne and art by Fran Werthwein on Sunday, May 16, from 3-5 P.M. Cindy reads poems inspired by walks, life situations and other people’s stories. A selection of Werthwein’s delicate compositions created on wet paper from natural elements, discarded fabric, and thread are also on display. After the reading, attendees are invited to participate in a poetry open mic session, limited to 5 minutes per person.
Rinne, who lives in San Bernardino, coordinates and participates in poetry events all over Southern California and is a member of Poets on Site, a Pasadena based group. She is also a fiber artist who has exhibited extensively and curated shows throughout the region. Werthwein is bicoastal, spending her time between Massachusetts and California. Her work is influenced by the natural world around her. She “listens to the Earth’s breath” and strives to live in harmony with its rhythms. Their collaboration entitled Breath of the Earth was originally created for an exhibition in Claremont, CA.
Rinne published a Zine in conjunction with Breath of the Earth, which will be available at the reading.
