The Uglysuit to play two LA shows

The Uglysuit return to Los Angeles to perform two shows before heading to the Midwest to perform at Summer Camp Music Fest and then at Wakarusa in Arkansas. The band is widely known for their monstrous anthemic walls of sound that drop on dime and turn into lush beautiful harmonies.

After performing 7 shows at SXSW in Austin, TX, and 5 shows last year at CMJ in New York City, the buzz has been building among fans and within the music industry. In 2008, The LA Times anointed them as one of the “Top 10 acts at SXSW 2009” and Rolling Stone Magazine put them in their “Top 10 acts at CMJ 2008.”

Made up of six friends from Oklahoma City ranging in age from 21-24, The Uglysuit bring a different mentality to what they do. According to Ken Shane at Popdose, “their music is best described as an amazing stew of influences that adds up to a totally unique sound. Their songs are long, filled with interesting changes that run the gamut from epic to nearly silent. Clearly they are striking a chord with their fans.” They are also winning new fans at every show.”

Playing together since their early teen years has given them an almost familiar connection, which shines through on their beautiful, fully-realized recordings. The band will be road testing new material as well as performing songs from their self-titled release on Touch & Go Records and their first EP, Welcome to Smileville. One of the new songs, “1902 Deep Ocean”, has already been posted on the band’s Myspace page and is garnering loads of attention from industry and fans alike, including a feature on Stereogum.

The band also received praise from a very prominent placement on the hit TV drama, ER. Their song, “Chicago”, was featured during the shows final retrospective episode.

Having often been compared to Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket, Broken Social Scene, and the Beach Boys, The Uglysuit have headlined shows with or toured in support of The Sea & The Cake, Iron & Wine, Umphrey’s McGee, Annuals, Okkervil River, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, The Swell Season and Cake.

The Uglysuit will be performing at Hotel Café on May 24th at 9:00 PM and also at The Viper Room on May 25th at 9:00 PM.
