North Park Music Thing in San Diego Aug. 13 and 14

North Park Music Thing’s 2010 panelists will provide guidance to musicians and music industry professionals at the San Diego music and media conference.

The two-day event will be held at the Lafayette Hotel, located at 2223 El Cajon Blvd. in San Diego, Aug. 13 -14, 2010. North Park Music Thing’s 2010 keynote speaker is music producer and songwriter Kim Fowley, who began his career in the music industry in the 1960s and has worked with the Byrds, Cat Stevens, Helen Reddy, The Plastic Ono Band, Alice Cooper, Kiss and Guns ‘n’ Roses. He also managed the all-girl band The Runaways in the 1970s.

“We select panelists with extensive experience in the music industry who can provide attendees with current, hands-on tips and information,” said Kevin Hellman, founder of the San Diego Music Foundation. “It’s important that North Park Music Thing not only be an outlet for Southern California musicians to be heard, but also provide content-rich information that benefits musicians and music industry professionals.”

Nic Adler (The Roxy) and Kristin Rolla (Myspace Music) speaking on the Using Music and Technology for the Greater Good panel;

Tim Mays (The Casbah), Mitchell Frank (Spaceland) and Josh Feingold (SESAC) speaking on the Creating a Music Town panel;

Traa Daniels (musician, P.O.D.) speaking on the Music Industry 101 panel;

Jennifer Knoepfle (Sony/ATV Music Publishing) and Marc Wilson (Warner Chappell Music) speaking on the Music Publishing panel;

Lilledeshan Bose (OC Weekly) and Steve Baltin (AOL's spinner.com) speaking on The Future of Music PR panel;

Following the panel sessions on Friday and Saturday, a showcase of bands and individual musicians from across the Southwestern United States will take place at 14 San Diego venues.

Tickets to North Park Music Thing are available online, via the North Park Music Thing website www.northparkmusicthing.com. The two-day all-access badge provides entry to all of the panels, trade show, private event parties, as well as all evening performances on Friday and Saturday. One-day all-access badges can also be purchased for either Friday or Saturday’s activities. Two-day badges are $35 in advance, $40 day of the event and one-day badges are $20 in advance, $25 day of the show.

All proceeds from North Park Music Thing will be donated to the San Diego Music Foundation, which seeks to enrich the San Diego music community by providing professional development opportunities and assistance to local musicians. The foundation organizes the annual San Diego Music Awards show that recognizes the achievements of the local music community and encourages the next generation of musicians through its Taylor Guitars for Schools program. The program has provided more than 1,500 guitars to 61 elementary schools in San Diego County that include guitar in the school’s music curriculum.
