Metal fans looking for a new heavyweight may have found one in, of all places, Melbourne, Australia.

Power trio Subjektive have made something of a statement with the release of their debut EP ‘My Perception’. On ‘Coward’ – a tune that would be the standout track for most albums, but here is just one of many – singer Aaron ‘Azcore’ Stevenson can be heard screaming the immortal refrain: “Come get some!”

Simple as it is, the line is as perfect a reflection of what Subjektive, and what this record in particular, are all about.

Putting their own unique on the style of metal greats such as Machine Head or Pantera, Subjektive have arrived with an explosion of sound, pounding guitar riffs, infectious melodies and, above all else, the attitude of a band who know they are going to make an impact.
The band has even coined its own name for the particular type of music they play – Rock Driven Metal. It’s the perfect description of music that is both a melodious, head-nodding form of metal but is also far more in-your-face, uproarious and full of heart than the music produced by your average ‘middle of the road’ rock band.

In the band’s own words, this music is “heavy as hell”. Yet, it’s also much more subtle, tuneful and, potentially, wide-reaching than much metal music that has gone before.

It is rare for a record to recreate the spine-tingling feeling of a live performance. But ‘My Perception’ is one of those records. Seeing Subjektive live on stage is a visceral, physical experience. And this record captures that feeling perfectly.

Subjektive want to take their music far beyond the shores of Australia. If this record is anything to go by, they are well on their way to creating a lasting legacy across the world.
