Salif Keita tour begins next week

Known the world over as “The Golden Voice of Africa” and credited as one of the founders of the Afro-pop genre, multiple Grammy®-nominee Salif Keita is back with a North American tour sure to mesmerize music lovers with his soaring vocals, emotionally-fuelled songs and unforgettable live performances. The New York Times stated that Keita has a voice that “leaps out of every song with tender urgency” and The Washington Post noted, “Salif Keita’s voice is one other mortals can only aspire to.” (See complete list of tour dates below)

With his 2010 US release and latest in a trilogy of acclaimed acoustic oriented recordings (Moffou 2002, M’Bemba 2006) La Différence succeeded in bringing global recognition to the cause of albinism and the current environmental tragedy in Africa. The album was primarily recorded at Keita’s Bamako studio which brought an intimate feel allowing Keita’s vocal timbres to shimmer and soar, highlighting their poetic nuances and the poignant themes of his lyrics. Salif sings a hymn of universal tolerance in the title track where he poetically claims, "some of us are black, some are white/all that difference has a purpose…for us to complete each other/let everyone receive love and dignity/the world will be a more beautiful place.”

La Différence won the Victoires des Musiques award for Best World Music in France (the equivalent to a U.S. Grammy) and recently Salif became Peace Ambassador for the African Union to bring his celebrity to end fighting in conflict zones and raise awareness about the plight of the African Albino.
