Student revue to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS in Pasadena June 18

College students from both New York and Los Angeles will headline a fully student produced musical benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids (BC/EFA) on Saturday, June 18 at the Pasadena Playhouse’s Carrie Hamilton Theatre, 39 South El Molino Ave., Pasadena at 7 p.m.
The musical revue, titled I’ll Cover You from the popular song from Rent, is a reflection on love, and a celebration of love through music. Performers include Coby Getzug who played the role of Moritz on the recent national tour of Spring Awakening along with students from college theatre programs at Wagner College, University of Michigan and Ithaca College.

Tickets can be purchased at www.coveryou.wordpress.com. General admission is $20 and student tickets are $15.

Produced by Pasadena resident and Wagner College, New York City student Allison Dufford, the benefit is being produced with the support of BC/EFA. The nonprofit organization, which funds social service work and awards grants to AIDS service organizations, has provided autographed Broadway memorabilia and merchandise for a silent auction before the show.

“Being a performer who aspires to be on Broadway I feel it’s only fitting to support this cause,” said Dufford. “Most of the Broadway Cares events are in New York City. I thought it was important to give the Los Angeles community a chance to support a cause that impacts so many of us and our friends.”

All of the songs in the show will relate to the many facets of love, whether that is love between friends, lovers, or family. The song list features Broadway favorites along with works from new musical theatre composers and pop/rock songs.

All proceeds will benefit BC/EFA. Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theatre community, since 1988 BC/EFA has raised over $195 million for essential services for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.

The Carrie Hamilton Theatre is an intimate theatre located on the second level of the Pasadena Playhouse campus.
