Crazy Uncle Joe Show celebrates 10th anniversary June 22 in LA

THE CRAZY UNCLE JOE SHOW, L.A.’s longest-running long-form improv show, is celebrating its 10th anniversary at The Groundlings Theatre. Holly Mandel, Groundlings alumna and creator of THE CRAZY UNCLE JOE SHOW, will be joined by special guest Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, “Saturday Night Live”) and the cast of Groundlings Players including Jordan Black (“Community”), Stephanie Courtney (“Men of a Certain Age,” Flo, Spokeswoman for Progressive Insurance), Brian Palermo (“90210”) and Christen Sussin (“Modern Family”) on Wednesday, June 22nd for a special anniversary edition of the show.

THE CRAZY UNCLE JOE SHOW was created by Mandel in 2001 as a way to explore a different form of improvisation that presents unique challenges to the actor. What started as an exercise for a limited run quickly became a weekly show with a strong following. Groundlings alumni Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph and Kristin Wiig all preformed in THE CRAZY UNCLE JOE SHOW while members of the company.

The audience suggests three ideas, and the Groundlings Players proceed to weave stories together in a random and entertaining fashion. Throughout the show, the Groundlings are traveling back and forth through time, playing different characters in many different situations. They keep it up for an uncanny 40 minutes straight, and after a brief intermission, they come back and do it all over again – with three new audience suggestions!

The Groundlings have catapulted the careers of comic actors from film and television such as Jennifer Coolidge, Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer, Kathy Griffin, Cheryl Hines, Chris Kattan, Lisa Kudrow, Jon Lovitz, Michael McDonald, Paul Reubens, Maya Rudolph, Mindy Sterling and Kristen Wiig, among others. The new Judd Apatow film, Bridesmaids, features Groundlings alumni Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumalo, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Michael Hitchcock and Wendi McLendon-Covey as well as current Groundlings Mitch Silpa, Jillian Bell, David Hoffman and Ariane Price. In addition to being comedy performers, Groundlings members and alumni hold writing positions on many of Hollywood’s top television and film projects.

THE CRAZY UNCLE JOE SHOW 10th anniversary celebration is Wednesday, June 22nd at 8:00 p.m.. Ticket prices are $25.00 and include complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are available at the box office or via phone at (323) 934-4747 ext. 37. The Groundlings Theatre is located at 7307 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles.
