Direct Hit! to release album

“Get pumped!” exclaims Milwaukee’s energetic pop punkers DIRECT HIT! on their debut full-length Domesplitter, which is available on August 2nd from Brooklyn based label Kind Of Like Records. Domesplitter will be available on vinyl and CD through the label’s webstore as well as digital retailers.

In anticipation of Domesplitter, AltPress.com is hosting an exclusive stream of the single “Monster In The Closet,” which fans can stream here:

With a penchant for comic books, Andrew WK, and pop punk, Direct Hit!’s Domesplitter is literally a collection of fan favorite songs. Having previously issued five EPs (numbered #1 through #5) since forming in 2007, Direct Hit! raised money to record Domesplitter by releasing a limited edition box set of the EPs, which included various live and unreleased material, on cassette tape. The 100 box sets included a card that asked fans “What are your favorite 10 Direct Hit songs?” and after polling their audience, the decision was made.

“We tallied the votes from anyone who mailed the card back to us,” says vocalist/guitarist Nick Woods. “So the folks who bought a box set, and helped us pay to record our album, are the ones who picked the songs.”

Track listing:
1. Snickers Or Reese's (Pick Up The Pieces)
2. Satan Says
3. Monster In The Closer
4. Kingdom Come
5. Boredom Addict
6. Failed Invasion
7. We Are Alone
8. Living Dead
9. In Orbit
10. They Came For Me

Though these songs have been previously released, Domesplitter features fresh takes on these fan favorites. Recorded in various studios in Milwaukee and Madison, WI, and mastered by Alan Douches (Brand New, Every Time I Die, Buzzcocks) at West West Side Music, Woods comments, “the EPs might as well be considered demos, or ‘early versions.’ They're sort of a snap shot of how our band developed up until this point.”

Direct Hit! are known to be an off-kilter band, so it comes as no surprise that when it comes to writing and releasing music the band takes cues from their favorite comic books as opposed to their musical inspirations.

“I don't write songs about real-life stuff. They're all stories that I make up because I think they're fun to think about or imagine,” Woods admits.

“I had always been a casual fan of comic books, and noticed that the ways people experienced comics weren't all that different than how people experienced records, at least before Napster came around,” explains Woods. “The big difference I saw was that there was a new issue of Spawn every month, but it took bands a couple of years to put out a new album. And I thought that was dumb... Bands write new songs all the time, but people don't get to hear them until they're polished and reworked and scrapped and written again over and over.”

Deciding it was best to enter the studio as often as possible with a handful of songs at a time, Woods says “I figured that would be a good way to at least gauge people's reaction to see if we were even worth hearing. And if things went well, we could compile all of the best songs into an album - just like a trade paperback of a comic book, which come out every year or so.”

Direct Hit! has shared the stage with Teenage Bottlerocket, Less Than Jake, Off With Their Heads, The Menzingers, Cheap Girls, Banner Pilot, and will announce tour plans for this summer shortly.

Direct Hit! is Nick Woods (vocals/guitar), Devon Kay (guitar/vocals), Robbie Schroeder (bass), and Danny Walkowiak (drums)
