Moorpark College Music Dept. Seeks Donations
Joan Thompson, a Music Professor at Moorpark College seeks donations of old books, music, etc. for a book and music sale their music dept is holding. She can pick them up the weekend of February 3-4 from Judy Lamppu's in Granada Hills - email or phone to arrange drop offs (818/831-3905 or jlamppu@socal.rr.com).
In the process of cleaning out offices, the faculty set aside some donations of some of their old and unused books, textbooks, music, and CDs for a music sale which she's coordinating next month. The sale will be held in the lobby of the Music Bldg, on long tables furnished by the Maintenance Dept. Things will go very cheaply, like a garage sale, with everything in the $1-$3 range, for materials to be put into the hands of their music students who have very little money to spend on extra music.
Besides their own students, people who come for evening rehearsals have been great customers in the past, like the Los Robles Master Chorale, the Los Robles Children's Chorale, the Community Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble.
Money will be used to augment their materials budget for new CDs, DVDs, scores, equipment, student awards, extra piano tunings, instrument repairs, etc. They have an emergency fund for unforeseen needs that come up during the semester and can't wait for the bureaucracy and paperwork.
Joan: "A few years ago, for instance, I bought a very valuable set of videos for my World Music class with money taken from this fund. My childhood piano teacher gave me several cartons of piano teaching music when she stopped teaching, and we have received a few donations from other teachers already."
All donations will be appreciated.
