Support local music with Sierra Madre Sue
One way to hear some great music, socialize with friends, and support a worthy cause all at the same time, is at the WINTER WINE FEST - a fundraiser for St. Rita's School (my alma mater) this Saturday, from 7 to 9:30pm. Event chairpersons Ellen Hoffman & Andrea Bertollini, pictured here, are expecting another successful turnout (not to mention the 14 fun people I rounded up!) The event is being held at the beautiful Villa on the Alverno High School grounds (also my alma mater!) at 200 N. Michillinda in Sierra Madre. Advance $10 tickets can be purchased at St. Rita's thru Friday, otherwise admission is $20 at the door and all attendeess are asked to bring a bottle of wine valued at $15 or more. Some wines are for tasting, some for raffle prizes. Light appetizers will be available. Entertainment will be provided by local duo STEVE & STEVE, who play acoustic rock, pop & folk classics, with harmony vocals. All in all, it should be a truly enjoyable evening! More details below....

Find a pet-friendly apartment
One lesser known victim of recent home foreclosures is the family pet. Shelters have seen an increase in pet surrenders due to families moving into apartments that prohibit animals. Worse yet, some pet owners are just leaving their pets behind with the house or turning them loose in rural areas. Even in a trying time, it is possible to keep the entire family together. Pet-owners finding themselves moving out of their homes and into apartments can use Pets911.com to find apartments in their neighborhood that accept pets.
Pets 911 is the national pet lost and found database and one of the top pet adoption portals. Its Pet Friendly Living section, in partnership with Apartments.com, provides a database of thousands of pet-friendly rental communities from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
An Apartments.com survey to current renters indicated that more than 84 percent own a pet and more than 34 percent stated that it was very difficult to find an apartment that allowed their pet. Because of this, one of the top reasons pets are surrendered to shelters is due to owner relocation.
"Financial situations may make it logical for people to rent instead of own, but pets shouldn’t suffer," said Pets 911 Program Manager Tracyann Mains. "Pets 911 wants to make it as easy as possible for movers to bring along pets to their next apartment."

A Kiss Could Be Deadly readies debut release
SoCal's newest export A KISS COULD BE DEADLY (AKCBD) has been building a healthy underground buzz in their native Orange County and now they're ready to launch it into the mainstream. With local press touting their adoration for the band, these feisty new wave poppers' highly anticipated self-titled debut will be released by Metropolis Records on March 18, 2008.
Led by the dashingly attractive vocalist Lauren Baird and her male counterpart Chris Qualls (synth/programming), AKCBD kicked off a few years ago and almost immediately started a very authentic and very organic buzz in the synthetic world. Fueled by a powerful appetite to create edgy pop music for a new generation while students at UC Riverside, they put together a handful of demos and started passing them around without any agenda other than to share their fun melange of punk, new wave and electro or, as Chris describes, "punk rock with synthesizers, scissor beats and sexy female vocals".
As the responses came back overwhelmingly positive, they both decided it was time to get serious. Adding friends and former bandmates, Kelly Cairns (bass), Danny Deleon (drums), and John Bennett (guitar), the line-up solidified and what began as "just a couple of demos" became A Kiss Could Be Deadly - the band.
“[Lauren]'s voice will have you coming back to this CD like rats to the button for food pellets... They boast that there isn't anything like it out there—and it's true. I can see people dancing to this...or painting, humping, reflecting—whatever.” - Skratch Magazine
"A Kiss Could Be Deadly tastefully combine rock, punk, new wave, and pop into a unique and mesmerizing sound. Definitely an act worth checking out if you like music, period" - Skinnie Magazine
“They have the IT factor” - Socal Monthly
“combines the energy of punk with the beats and hooks of early dance electronica” - Synthtopia
“makes you want to turn on the strobe light and do that new-wave skipping dance” - IE Weekly
With a faithful nod to 80s stalwarts like Berlin, Blondie, Scandal and even Quarterflash ("Harden My Heart" anyone?) and a flash to the future-forward dance electro of Shiny Toy Guns, The Gossip and Matinee Club, AKCBD's debut has all the "oontz oontz" of modern dance pop and the blips and dayglo of two decades ago. From the fun skippy beat of "The Exit" with Lauren's soaring vocals taking off for full flight to the synth swirls of "Damage Control" to the propulsive beats of "Broken Music" to the shiny and dark undertones of "Midnight Romance" (imagine Paramore fronted by Pat Benatar), A Kiss Could Be Deadly is not only packed with dancefloor anthems but also carries quite an emotional wallop.
A varied record with different textures and tones, John sums up the record the best with his two favorite songs "I like 'The Sequel' because it's the only song on the record that doesn't bludgeon the listener over the head with hooks, and 'Poison IV' because it savagely bludgeons the listener over the head with hooks."
A Kiss Could Be Deadly's self-titled release hits stores on March 18, 2008 on Metropolis Record and the band are more excited than anyone.
"After all the work that went into making the album, I am definitely excited about our release," Lauren says. "I hope everyone loves it as much as we do!"
Something suggests that the feeling will definitely be mutual.

The MIGHTY CLOUDS OF JOY has consistently pushed the boundaries of Gospel music. While progressive in sound, the group has remained constant in its message, letting its core beliefs shine through to Gospel, Pop, and R&B audiences on recordings and in performances, from an intimate church setting to the White House, to concert venues throughout the country
The Mighty Clouds of Joy has been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards and has won three. In 1999, the group was inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame in Detroit and, later that year, it was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. From playing shows with Aretha Franklin and her father, Reverend C.L. Franklin; to performing a full month at New York City’s Madison Square Garden with Paul Simon; to being asked to perform with the Rolling Stones, the Mighty Clouds of Joy has transcended Gospel music, proving that the message is meaningful in all musical arenas.
The Mighty Clouds of Joy crossed over into the Pop charts with its single Mighty High, which topped the Disco charts and also landed on the R&B charts. The Mighty Clouds of Joy became the first Gospel group to perform on Soul Train and holds the distinction as the most visible of any Gospel act in history. The group has performed on the Grammy Awards, the Stellar Awards, Prime Time Country, The Mike Douglas Show, The Merv Griffin Show, and The Arsenio Hall Show.
Tickets are now on sale for the Mighty Clouds of Joy at the CCPA. For tickets or more information, call (562) 467-8818, or go to www.cerritoscenter.com .

Lili Haydn's benefit show Friday
WHO: LILI HAYDN--singer, songwriter and violinist extraordinaire--will perform at a benefit for the Writers Guild Foundation Industry Support Fund.
WHERE: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1 in Los Angeles
BUSBY’S
5364 Wilshire Blvd. (formerly The Conga Room).
Doors: 6:30 pm
LILI set time: 7:30 pm
WHAT: The event, titled BandAid, will benefit the WGA’s Industry Support Fund, which has been set up by writers for non-writers in the industry and provides industry workers affected by the current strike with emergency assistance for food, housing, medical needs, and other expenses.
Note: Cash donations will be taken at the door in lieu of a cover charge.
More on LILI: LILI returns April 1 with PLACE BETWEEN PLACES, her debut album for Nettwerk Music and third album overall. On PLACE BETWEEN PLACES--produced by HAYDN and Grammy-winning producer-engineer Thom Russo (Johnny Cash, Macy Gray, Audioslave)--she delivers sounds that are inventive and torrid, with compelling lyrics in search of peace and passion in an unsteady world. She shows a new sense of abandonment in her vocals to match the fire and grace of her virtuosic violin playing. The Los Angeles-based artist’s words and melodies cover a wide musical territory, as rooted in modern rock and avant-pop as in her early studies of Brahms and Tchaikovsky.

Lyrics Born to release digital single Feb. 19
East Bay MC Lyrics Born will give fans a taste of what’s to come when he releases a digital single -- the hyper-catchy track “I Like It, I Love It” – on February 19th. It is the first single from his highly anticipated album Everywhere At Once, dropping April 22nd.
His first studio album since 2003’s Later that Day…(called “easily one of the most creative hip hop albums of the year” by Amazon.com), Everywhere At Once finds Lyrics Born stepping into new territory. Bored with the drum machine and over licensing rights, LB assembled a crew of top musicians and filled the record with the grooves and soul of a live band playing classic hip hop, fusing that with R ‘n B, pop and even a bit of reggaeton. Topped with Lyrics Born’s signature smooth flow, the Anti Records debut is a creative leap forward, both for LB and the genre itself.
“Blessed with an Eminem-like talent for sustained wordplay, Lyrics Born mixes club-rocking command, gruff sincerity and Southern cool,” writes Rolling Stone.
Lyrics Born has a long history of writing songs that quickly become incorporated into our cultural landscape: remember those can’t-get-it-out-of-your-head songs from Nokia and Diet Coke commercials? That’s him. “I Like It, I Love It” is no different. Infectious and uplifting, the track is an instant classic.
Check out the single “I Like It, I Love It” on February 19th on iTunes and Amazon, and catch Lyrics Born’s famously energetic and boisterous live set at 2008’s South By Southwest Music festival in Austin Texas on March 13th at Cedar St. Courtyard.

Check out Grammy Salute to Fashion
The intersection of fashion and music will come alive on Thursday, Feb. 7, when In Style and The Recording Academy® present the first ever GRAMMY Salute to Fashion, it was announced today. The event will be hosted by Recording Academy Chair and four-time GRAMMY®-winning producer Jimmy Jam, and will include a special performance by current four-time GRAMMY nominee Rihanna. CoverGirl is the presenting sponsor.
Curated by In Style's fashion director Hal Rubenstein, the fashion show will feature spring collections from BeyoncĂ© and Tina Knowles' House of DerĂ©on, Sean Combs' Sean John Women's, Jay-Z's Rocawear, Jennifer Lopez' justsweet, Jessica Simpson's Jessica Simpson Collection, and Justin Timberlake's William Rast. Also showcased will be The Recording Academy's fashion line, GRAMMY Brand™. Elizabeth Stewart will serve as the show's stylist, makeup artistry will be provided by CoverGirl, hair styling will be courtesy of Paul Mitchell, with a jewelry showcase by Le Vian and shoes by Steve Madden.
"There has always been an exciting synergy between music and fashion, and no other red carpet event is better at reflecting this connection than the GRAMMY Awards," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "GRAMMY Salute to Fashion will pay homage to the stylish musicians that have successfully branched out into the world of fashion design. What better way to display their passion for music and fashion than with a live fashion show featuring their respective collections."
"In Style magazine is thrilled to collaborate with The Recording Academy to celebrate the most natural of combinations — music and fashion," said In Style fashion director Hal Rubenstein. "And who would know better about what clothes belong in the spotlight than these six gifted artists. After all, we don't just enjoy their music, we also marvel at their grace, copy their moves, and of course, covet their style. We love these clothes because they work both onstage and off, they make you feel great, they're fun and sexy — back, front, inside and out."
Beyoncé:
House of DerĂ©on House of DerĂ©on is a clothing line that launched during the holiday season of 2005 by famed singer and actress BeyoncĂ© and her mother, designer and celebrity stylist, Tina Knowles. The collection is named in honor of Tina’s mother, Agnez DerĂ©on, a self-taught dressmaker and seamstress who made beautiful women's clothing for private clients throughout the south. With a fresh eye on style and an unwavering attention to detail and fit, they've created a contemporary line that is not only reflective of House of DerĂ©on's Creole influences, but also AgnĂ©z's daring approach and bold ideas.
This initial collection of House of DerĂ©on dresses for spring 2008 consists of body conscious styles for cocktail and evening, incorporating luxurious fabrics such as silk charmeuse, chiffon, and satin crepe. House of DerĂ©on dresses are available at select department stores including Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom. The mission of the company is simple: to fuse celebrity power and design artistry into a brand of global importance…a house of aspiration and inspiration…where entertainment and fashion merge seamlessly. The House of DerĂ©on – Couture. Kick. Soul.
Sean Combs:
Sean John Sean John, a privately held company, was created by music icon and producer Sean "Diddy" Combs and made its fashion debut with a men’s sportswear collection for the spring 1999 season. In 2004, Sean "Diddy" Combs for Sean John was honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America as Men's Wear Designer of the Year. With annual retail sales in the United States of over $525 million, Sean John is sold in select department and specialty stores across the country, as well as select retailers around the world.
In 2006 Sean John, in partnership with Estée Lauder Companies, launched its signature men's fragrance, Unforgivable, which remains one of the highest selling men's fragrances in department stores in America. Its feminine counterpart launched in the fall of 2007 and continues to be in the top 20 best selling scents in the category.
Jay-Z:
Rocawear Rapper and media mogul Sean "Jay-Z" Carter launched the multi-million dollar clothing line Rocawear in 1999. The preeminent fashion brand continues to transcend cultural boundaries for young men, women, and kids, defining style from the "streets" to the height of fashion. Rocawear quickly staked its claim in hip-hop history by becoming the brand of choice for street savvy consumers and has concentrated on providing its customer with clever innovation in terms of fabrication, application, and design. With annual retail sales more than $700 million, the brand's attention to detail has given Rocawear an appeal far beyond its core urban customer.
Rocawear defines the lifestyle for today's young hip consumer and is inspired by an urban aesthetic rooted in young men's sportswear. Rocawear has expanded its brand through licensing pacts to develop lines for children, juniors, socks and sandals, leather suede and fur outerwear, handbags and belts, loungewear and big & tall, headwear, jewelry, and sunglasses; as well as co-branded product with Pro-Keds.
Jennifer Lopez:
justsweet Multi-platinum recording artist/actress Jennifer Lopez heads her own successful clothing lines — Sweetface and justsweet — and was awarded with the ACE icon award in 2006 for her contributions to the accessories and fashion industry. Justsweet is a line that is fashion forward and appeals to the trend savvy status denim market. The brand intends to reflect a look and style that women will cherish and that reflect Lopez's unique and inspiring aesthetic. The designs are made to make women feel sexy, feminine and confident. Additionally, it reflects Lopez's personal style and culture, which adds a richness and wearability to the collections.
Jessica Simpson:
Jessica Simpson Collection Singer/actress Jessica Simpson launched the Jessica Simpson Collection in fall of 2005. Her popular lifestyle brand consists of footwear, handbags, swimwear, lingerie, outerwear, jewelry, sunglasses and a soon to be released fragrance and celebrates her iconic, American image that is fashion-forward and accessible. American and feminine, forward but classically familiar, approachable yet inspirational, sexy yet sweet, flirtatious and whimsical, vintage at times, but always of-the-moment, Simpson knows how to create an image people want to buy.
Millions of women all over the world are interested in her fashion choices as her personal style has been copied by women worldwide over the past few years. Blake Shelton releases new single to radio
Multi-Platinum selling Warner Bros. recording artist Blake Shelton has just released his current single, “Home,” to country radio. Written and originally recorded by Michael Buble, “Home” is the perfect match for Shelton. He wraps his rich voice around the lyrics and music presenting a passionate performance that brings out love and longing in the song.
Shelton was aware of “Home” when it was first released but it was after his current album, PURE BS, was released in 2007 that he was reintroduced to “Home” and fell in love with it all over again. He added it to his live show and played it for some fans and record executives during CMA week this past November. By the reaction he was receiving he felt like he had something special. “I didn’t want to wait til the next album to put this out – it just feels right for now,” says Shelton. And his record company, Warner Bros. Records agrees.
“Home” will be available digitally at Amazon.com on February 1 as a digital single and also included on PURE BS. On February 5 it will be available digitally at all other digital retailers including iTunes and Rhapsody. The ringtone will be available via all carriers in early February.
On March 4 Blake Shelton: Collector’s Edition will be available in Wal-Mart only. The disc will not only include “Home” but also Shelton’s mega-hits “Austin,” “Ol’ Red,” “Nobody But Me,” and “Some Beach.”
PURE BS Deluxe Edition, including “Home” and other unreleased material, will be available in stores this summer.
Shelton's new single, "Home" will be featured in Pepsi Stuff radio ads. Pepsi Stuff, the biggest promotion in Pepsi history, is a massive collect-and-get program where consumers can go to Amazon.com to download the most DRM-free MP3 music available anywhere.
Amazon MP3 offers Earth's Biggest Selection of a la carte, DRM-free MP3 music downloads, with over 3.25 million songs from more than 270,000 artists. Four billion specially marked Pepsi packages will allow people to collect points and redeem them for music from Amazon MP3 that can be played on virtually any digital portable device (including iPod®), organized in any music management application, or burned to a CD.
Pepsi Stuff launches on February 1. Consumers may sign up now to be reminded when the promotion begins at http://www.pepsistuff.com/.

Chacellorpink offers an anti-Valentine's Day release
Ray McLaughlin, AKA Chancellorpink, likes to do things his own way. Not content with writing all his own material, he also engineers, produces and plays every note. Oh, and he's a full-time attorney too. Rest is not something that is high on this talented artist's agenda.Vowing to release an album every year until, in his words, "I die or become boring" Chancellorpink has stayed true to his word. Following well-received records in 2006 and 2007, he has come up with Valentine Parade "a perfect suite of songs for the broken-hearted and a nice antidote for anyone who wants to avoid loved-up couples this Valentine's Day."
Inspired by that which he says inspires all great writers - "alcohol and broken hearts" - Chancellorpink has crafted a record full of rich vocal harmonies, filtered, staccato guitar lines, and altogether beautiful tunes. Envisaged as "a heart-shaped candy box of 11 sing-along Hallmarks designed to keep you company when your phone doesn't ring on Valentine's Day," this is far from your average greetings card company's take on the love song.
"Each song is about love, in one form or another," says Ray. "Each song is a 'Valentine,' written from a different perspective, a different voice."
Chancellorpink's own voice could also be described as 'different', but only in the best possible meaning of the word. It is, by turns, haunting and beautiful, pained and warm. But it's always backed by some fine production and an unusually good ear for a melody.
Chancellorpink describes making music and poetry as something that is "in the blood". Having been involved in several successful bands in and around Pittsburgh since an early age, Ray has always been fully immersed in music and songwriting. However, having written over 1000 songs, he finds the dynamics of being part of a band too limiting.
"I make songs rather than have a 'sound'," he says. "I change the instrumentation from song to song, and I change my vocal stylings depending on the overall sound I am going for on a given song."
It is this variety, above all, which makes Valentine Parade stand apart from most pop records you'll hear.
And what drives this poet-songwriter to keep making music?
"I just want to be heard by more people, anywhere," he says. "My hope is that people relate to my music, share it and it spreads." I
f Chancellorpink keeps making records like this, I'm sure it will.
Valentine Parade is released on, of course, 14 Feb 2008. Lovers of great music, rejoice.

Gigantour DVD and CD out in April
The second coming of MEGADETH’s acclaimed traveling metal festival GIGANTOUR arrives on both DVD and CD April 22 via Image Entertainment--just ten days after GIGANTOUR’s latest incarnation begins its North American invasion April 12 in Denver. Conceived in 2005 by MEGADETH frontman DAVE MUSTAINE, GIGANTOUR-- proclaimed “the mother of all shred fests” by Revolver magazine–resurrects metal’s focus on stellar musicianship.
The GIGANTOUR 2 DVD and CD follow Image Entertainment’s fall 2006 release of the debut GIGANTOUR CD and DVD which featured unforgettable performances by MEGADETH, Dream Theater, Fear Factory, Anthrax (CD only), Nevermore, Life of Agony, Symphony X, Dry Kill Logic and Bobaflex.
GIGANTOUR 2 features over an hour of blistering performances by iconic and influential heavy metal pioneers MEGADETH--who have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide in a career now spanning 25 years--along with Lamb of God, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Overkill, The Smashup, and Into Eternity. Recorded in DTS 5.1 surround sound, the DVD version also features a behind the scenes look at the 2006 tour, while both the DVD and CD offer a hidden bonus track--MEGADETH’s ever-relevant “Peace Sells.”
“Mr. Mustaine was one of speed-metal’s originators, and his double-time riffs are propulsive,” wrote Ben Ratliff of The New York Times in a review of the 2006 GIGANTOUR. “Bending over his guitar, long blond tresses hanging down, he gives his solos the direct feeling of wrestling with the music as he plays it, with some chaos and aggression.”
“Megadeth might be counting its history in decades now, but one would never have gathered that from their career-spanning set,” concurred Paul Andersen of the L.A. Daily News. “Mustaine and crew played with a passion and intensity that fed directly from the adoring crowd, and throughout their 90-minute set, no one sat, as this was a day--and night--that demanded movement.”
The release of the GIGANTOUR 2 DVD and CD coincides with this year’s Earth Day--perfect, really, since MUSTAINE has said, with a laugh, about GIGANTOUR’s mission of emphasizing true musicianship and virtuosity: “I think that in a small way, we are cleaning up the environment of crappy bands.”
Meanwhile, in February MEGADETH heads to Europe--where recently announced new guitarist CHRIS BRODERICK (Nevermore, Jag Panzer) will make his debut with the band alongside MUSTAINE, drummer SHAWN DROVER, and bassist JAMES LOMENZO--before returning for this year’s GIGANTOUR.
The 29-date North American trek kicks off April 12 at The Fillmore in Denver and criss-crosses the U.S. and Canada until its May 22 finale at the Mesa Amphitheatre in Phoenix. Joining MEGADETH on this year’s tour are Scandinavian death metal band In Flames, Finland’s Children of Bodom, Arizona’s modern extreme Job for a Cowboy, and Oakland, CA heavy power trio High on Fire.

Pitbull and Baby Bash to co-headline tour
Rap superstars, TVT Records' Pitbull and Arista Records' Baby Bash, come together to co-headline a Spring tour. The cross-country tour kicks off in Orlando on Saturday, March 15 in support of their new albums; The Boatlift and Cyclone, respectively.
Pitbull and Baby Bash have massive internet followings, are two of the most searched for Latin artists on Myspace, and both have been the #1 Latin artist on the site.
"It's been long over due for me and Pit to hit the road together; finall your fans can see us both together for one ticket. You can't beat that with a whoopin' stick," says Baby Bash about the upcoming tour.
Baby Bash's first smash single from the new album, "Cyclone," (featuringT-Pain) has already sold more than 1.5 million digital singles, surpassed the 1 million mark in ringtones, and hit Top 10 on the rap and mainstream radio charts, making him one of the hottest stars in the country. The second single, "What Is It" (featuring Sean Kingston) is currently Top 10 on the rap chart and is heating up at mainstream radio.
This is the first national tour for Pitbull since joining Lil Jon on the Anger Management Tour in 2005.
"I can't wait to get out on the road with Baby Bash. I want to use this opportunity to connect with my all my fans and million plus Myspace friends," says Pitbull.
The Boatlift showcases Pitbull's lyrical prowess as he crusades through 18 tracks penning clever and captivating rhymes on each song. Pitbull has created an incredibly diverse album ranging from R&B-influenced sounds like first single "Secret Admirer" feat Lloyd, to hypnotic club banger "Go Girl" teaming with Trina and Young Boss, and current Afro-Cuban melodic single "The Anthem" with a bombastic chant by Lil Jon. " The Anthem" is number 17 on the Top 40 Rhythm chart and breaking big on Mainstream Top 40 (Pop) radio.
Baby Bash originally from Vallejo, CA now based in Houston, TX, has garnered a loyal following as a rapper-singer mixing hip-hop and R&B with his Latin roots. Bash's major label debut album, The Smokin' Nephew (certified gold),and the follow up Super Saucy, featured the #1 hit singles, "Suga Suga" (featuring Frankie J) and "Baby I'm Back" (featuring Akon). Bash also penned and performed on the smash records with Frankie J, "Obsession" and Paula Deanda, "Doing Too Much." Most recently Bash was featured with Jennifer Lopez on "This Boy's On Fire" from Santana' s Ultimate Santana.
Cuban-American MC Pitbull surpassed gold status for more than 500,000 copies sold of his debut album M.I.A.M.I.: Money Is A Major Issue in the United States. The feat gave Pitbull the biggest-selling bilingual hip-hop debut since Cypress Hill's 1991 self-titled debut, and put him in the rare category of Latino rappers who have achieved major success in English-language radio. In addition to being the #1 Latin artist on Myspace, Pitbull unleashed his sophomore album El Mariel in late 2006 spawning the #1 Latin Rap hit, "Dime".

The band will be celebrating by having a star studded CD release party at the Key Club in Los Angeles on February 6th. The party, being held during Grammy week, will also be doubling as a Grammy party for Course of Nature front man Mark Wilkerson who is nominated in the "Rock Song of the Year" category for writing Daughtry's "It's not over". The night will feature a special appearance by label mates Tantric who will be performing, for the first time, an acoustic set of material from their new album "The End Begins". The party is being hosted by Melissa Joan Hart, Jaime Pressley, and Extra! Also making appearances will be Michael Strahan of the NFC champion NY Giants, members of Candlebox who are currently recording their new album in LA, and cast members of ER.
SMG signs Vayden:
Silent Majority Group is also proud to announce the signing of Phoenix rockers Vayden. Vayden will also be appearing in LA during Grammy week at the Whiskey on February 8th at 9:00 P.M. Vayden's debut single "Anthem of the Used" and other tracks from their forthcoming CD "Children of our Mistakes" are available at www.myspace.com/vayden.

Story of the Year to release new effort in April
St. Louis alternative rock heavyweights Story of the Year will release their hotly anticipated new album, The Black Swan, on April 22nd. Like the title suggests, the group’s third studio album is anything but predictable. Combining the addictive choruses of their platinum selling album Page Avenue and the heaviness of In The Wake of Determination, The Black Swan transcends previous releases as their boldest and most accessible album to date.
Featuring the smash hit single “Wake Up” (mixed by Chris Lord Alge) and the piano driven ballad, “Terrified,” The Black Swan was produced by John Feldmann (Page Avenue, The Used) and “Elvis” Baskette (Chevelle, Escape The Fate). “Making this record felt like starting over,” says frontman Dan Marsala. “We’re like a brand new band. You can hear it in these songs, we’re excited again. I think we’ve really stepped it up on this record.”
Continuing with tracks like the remarkably powerful and deeply personal alt-rock anthem “Doom” and the thought-provoking “Message to the World,” The Black Swan explores social and moral issues close to the band’s heart. With themes of war and prejudice, and taking lyrical inspiration from the likes of Carl Sagan among others, the group’s latest album finds the band in a refined state. “Musically, we've grown so much. We have some very unique, timeless, face melting guitar riffs and solos that have come to define our sound, without compromising the idea of a classic song,” explains guitarist Ryan Phillips.
Story of the Year’s first single, “Wake Up,” will be available for digital download beginning February 19th. Fans are encouraged to join the band’s online fan club, www.ArmyoftheBlackSwan.com, for updates and exclusive opportunities.
The Black Swan Tracklisting:
Choose Your Fate
Wake Up
The Antidote
Tell Me
Angel In The Swamp
The Black Swan
Message To The World
Apathy Is A Deathwish
We’re Not Gonna Make It
Cannonball
Terrified
Carl Sagan Interlude
Welcome To Our New War

Make it a party with Scott Detweiler's CD release Mardi Gras weekend
WHAT: SCOTT DETWEILER MARDI GRAS WEEKEND CD RELEASE CELEBRATION
WHEN: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2008
WHERE: JAX BAR AND GRILL, 339 N. Brand Boulevard, Glendale (downtown), CA 91203 (www.jaxbarandgrill.com )
TIME: 9PM – 130AM
COST: FREE (no cover and no minimum)
New Orleans Blues Entertainer, Scott Detweiler, will celebrate the release of his VAVV Records Release during Mardi Gras Weekend on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at landmark Los Angeles area jazz venue, Jax Bar and Grill (339 N. Brand Boulevard, downtown Glendale, CA 91203).
He is one of the most important singing/guitarists to emerge from New Orleans in recent memory.
In March of 2007, Scott Detweiler walked into VAVV Recording Studios while scouting for a studio to produce a CD for a client. Ironically, he was offered a recording contract. Recording commenced a week later.
During the course of his career, spanning over 20 (twenty) years, Detweiler has independently released 8 cds and countless live cds; however, this marks his first affiliation with a recording company. Although he was actually offered 2 (two) other recording contracts, including one with a major label (both offers were declined by Detweiler because they would not agree to his terms), over the years he has been passed on by dozens of agencies, management companies, publishers and recording companies, including A&M, Atlantic, Geffen and Alligator.
“Made In New Orleans” contains 12 (eleven) original compositions from Detweiler’s vast catalog of music. The score for the new CD is over 50 (fifty) pages long.
Scott Detweiler has been the subject of recent interest, not only because he signed his first recording contract at age 44, but also because on October 6, 2007, at the Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park, he became the first blues artist to premiere an original blues chamber composition (his own “The Sun Will Rise”, based on the Katrina disaster) and then perform a set with his band in the same concert setting.
After studying jazz at Loyola in New Orleans and music composition at the University of New Orleans, Detweiler privately studied orchestration in the home of Ellis Marsalis. In Los Angeles, he studied writing for strings with Henry Mancini and lyric writing at with K.A. Parker.
He is endorsed by Peerless Guitars and Gomez Amplification.
VAVV Records recognizes Scott Detweiler as an important, original and prolific artist in the story of New Orleans music and will bring accelerated exposure to his artistry on an international level.

ASPCA launches pet photo contest
To honor St. Valentine and our furry paramours, the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is launching a special online photo contest and encouraging pet parents to submit photos of their beloved cat and dog Valentines.
"Celebrating the important and lasting bonds we have with our pets is only natural during this love-filled time of the year," said ASPCA President and CEO Ed Sayres. "And while caring for and loving animals is important all year long, this photo contest is a great way to show how much we appreciate those special four-legged friends in our lives."
The contest opens on February 1, but pet parents should remember to submit their photos by February 29, when the contest closes. Winners will be announced in late March. Ten winners of this year's contest will be featured on the organization's web site at ASPCA.org, and will also receive a prize pack, including a copy of The Emotional Lives of Animals by Marc Bekoff, an ASPCA t-shirt, plush toy, and wristband.
For complete rules, and to submit favorite photos of your pets, please visit www.aspca.org/furryvalentine
