A Kiss Could Be Deadly readies debut release

SoCal's newest export A KISS COULD BE DEADLY (AKCBD) has been building a healthy underground buzz in their native Orange County and now they're ready to launch it into the mainstream. With local press touting their adoration for the band, these feisty new wave poppers' highly anticipated self-titled debut will be released by Metropolis Records on March 18, 2008.
Led by the dashingly attractive vocalist Lauren Baird and her male counterpart Chris Qualls (synth/programming), AKCBD kicked off a few years ago and almost immediately started a very authentic and very organic buzz in the synthetic world. Fueled by a powerful appetite to create edgy pop music for a new generation while students at UC Riverside, they put together a handful of demos and started passing them around without any agenda other than to share their fun melange of punk, new wave and electro or, as Chris describes, "punk rock with synthesizers, scissor beats and sexy female vocals".
As the responses came back overwhelmingly positive, they both decided it was time to get serious. Adding friends and former bandmates, Kelly Cairns (bass), Danny Deleon (drums), and John Bennett (guitar), the line-up solidified and what began as "just a couple of demos" became A Kiss Could Be Deadly - the band.

With a faithful nod to 80s stalwarts like Berlin, Blondie, Scandal and even Quarterflash ("Harden My Heart" anyone?) and a flash to the future-forward dance electro of Shiny Toy Guns, The Gossip and Matinee Club, AKCBD's debut has all the "oontz oontz" of modern dance pop and the blips and dayglo of two decades ago. From the fun skippy beat of "The Exit" with Lauren's soaring vocals taking off for full flight to the synth swirls of "Damage Control" to the propulsive beats of "Broken Music" to the shiny and dark undertones of "Midnight Romance" (imagine Paramore fronted by Pat Benatar), A Kiss Could Be Deadly is not only packed with dancefloor anthems but also carries quite an emotional wallop.
A varied record with different textures and tones, John sums up the record the best with his two favorite songs "I like 'The Sequel' because it's the only song on the record that doesn't bludgeon the listener over the head with hooks, and 'Poison IV' because it savagely bludgeons the listener over the head with hooks."
A Kiss Could Be Deadly's self-titled release hits stores on March 18, 2008 on Metropolis Record and the band are more excited than anyone.
"After all the work that went into making the album, I am definitely excited about our release," Lauren says. "I hope everyone loves it as much as we do!"
Something suggests that the feeling will definitely be mutual.
