Mike the PoeT to lead tour

TO ALL YOU BRILLIANT ANGELENOS!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
This is your friend
Mike Sonksen
aka Mike the PoeT...

Next saturday January 19th, 2008 I will be leading a 3 1/2 hour tour
from Downtown LA to Hollywood to Koreatown & back to downtown. It starts @ 8PM..

The Cruise is sponsored by the
Museum of Neon Art
& hosted by Mike the PoeT, 3rd generation L.A. native widely known for his insightful poems about Los Angeles & his overall knowledge of architecture, culture & history.
Mike has been a tourguide since 1997.

This tour is his favorite because it combines Music, architecture, history & poetry. The tour includes 3 short stops @ well known watering holes like the Broadway Bar, Frolic Room & the legendary Bukowski bar Frank'n'Hanks near the Wiltern in Koreatown. Along the way Mike kicks a few of his poems, tells some 411 on the Art Deco Movie Palces & Vintage neon signs & also plays classic songs about Los Angeles that blend into the tour. The tour isn't the standard tour where the tourguide is talking all the time. Everything is spaced out just right so the trip can be romantic or social. Previous guests have said it was one of their favorite nights in the city of Angels.

Sponsored by the

FLAVORPILL wrote this about the tour..
No one knows LA's mean streets, glittering façades, and lurid lights better than Mike the Poet — and no one can describe them better. An iconic, third-generation wordsmith, the LA native was recently described by City of Quartz's Mike Davis as "this generation's Walt Whitman." Mike takes to the streets tonight, combining music, art, and spoken word in a bus tour of art-deco movie palaces, vintage neon signage, and Bukowskian watering holes. While there are plenty of similar city soirees, Mike's evocative expressions makes this tour a true City of Angels original. (LMK)

Mike the PoeT releases his long awaited, I Am Alive in Los Angeles!—a tour-de-force of downright literary innovation.
With progressive prose blends and punchy poems, Mike goes A to Z on all things Los Angeles: multiculturalism, Hollywood, gangs, graffiti, L.A. authors, the underground art community, urban landscapes and secret streets.
Mike is the Los Angeles expert. Widely known for his poetry performances, poignant articles and knowledge packed L.A. tours—he's a writer on a mission. This book is an adventurous journey like the city it's dedicated to.
"There are so many schools of thought, but they are all saying the same thing," Mike the PoeT says, "My book is intended to connect all thinkers from uptown to downtown, urban dwellers, professionals and academic scholars…I walk in all of these worlds."
---------

"Mike the Poet's sings the history, people, dreams, and even shadows of LA city, one of the most seen and filmed cities of the world, yet little known or understood. His poems are instant pop-and-crackle chronicles, more news than the 11 PM news hour, yet they are also jack-hammer words crashing onto concrete walkways, the palm-drenched horizon through smog-laden sky, the truth that dares to include everyone. What everyone forgets, Mike the Poet remembers."
--Luis J. Rodriguez, writer/poet/activist, author of "Always Running" and "The Republic of East LA."
