End o' week musings

It's actually musings for the end o' two weeks, as I didn't catch up with you last week. I was sooo busy and the holiday sneaked up on me!!

On the 28th, I attended the opening of the Zorthian, Feynman and Davies exhibit at the Armory Center of the Arts in Pasadena. The artworks were very interesting and I spent a long time looking at each one. Richard Davies' daughter Helena invited me to join them for an after-party at Cafe Bizou and I did! It was over-the-top!! We drank lovely wine, crisp champagne and dined on all kinds of goodies. I enjoyed a lobster and shrimp dish followed by creme brulee. Yummy! I also was surrounded by people full of good conversation. I cannot express my appreciation enough for being included in this soiree.... it was an evening I will always remember.

On the 29th Zaynah and I danced in San Bernardino at the Punk Raqs show. We performed to AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" and a duet by Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper with our swords, of course. The show went well and we had a good time shopping too!

Jumping ahead through my interviews and outings, my next big night was July 3. I went to Sierra Madre for its annual pre-Fourth of July concert in the park. The Sheds played and were good as always. Then Aluminum Marshmallow took to the stage with the Age of Aquarius Horns. I listened for quite some time and couldn't resist any more-- I had to get up and dance! AM has a great repertoire and knows how to get the crowd going. You can catch them at the Colorado Bridge Street Party July 19 in Pasadena.

I spent the Fourth of July at the Rose Bowl for its festival and fireworks show. Wow! It was sooo crowded, but it was worth it. I had a great time... except for having to wait for more than an hour after the show had ended to get out of the parking lot. But that wasn't so bad, as I turned on the tunes and just relaxed until all the fuss for the exits was over.

Monday, my friend Byron signed me and my friends Andrew and Gabe into Disneyland and California Adventure for the day. We were there from 9:30 a.m.-midnight and managed to get on all the "big" rides and more. We only used one fast pass and did the rest by going on things with shorter lines, holding out for the "E-tickets" later in the evening. We also saw "Fantasmic." I love Disneyland and even though it took until today for me to fully recover, I would happily go there tomorrow if I could!!

Tuesday I went to see "Looped" at the Pasadena Playhouse. The play is based on an event from Tallulah Bankhead's life, when she had to go into the studio to re-record one line of dialog from a film. It should have only taken a few minutes, but instead it took hours and hours. Valerie Harper was the lead, with Chad Allen as her co-star and their acting was superb. Kudos also to the mysterious man in the sound booth who gave out his lines with just the right touch of sarcasm.

Wednesday began in a very cool way. I answered my phone at 8 a.m. to hear "Good morning Michelle, this is Rob calling from Athens, Greece." It was Rob Halford from Judas Priest calling me on time for our interview. He said it was hot and humid in Greece, but the food was good. He was in a bit of a mess, as he had brought way too much luggage and was trying to find what he wanted to wear for his performance that night at a big outdoor festival. That's all I'm going to share, you'll have to read my story later to get the rest!

In the evening I performed magic with Magic Wayne at the Glendora Library. It was the finale to a story I am writing for the newspaper. I did two rope tricks and one card trick and the kids seemed to enjoy it. I had a good time too, but I don't think I'll be quitting my day job any time soon...

This weekend I have dance practice, Esotouric's "The New Chinatowns" bus tour (http://www.esotouric.com/ ), a party at a prominent celebrity photographer's home, plans to see a movie with my friend and goodness knows what else!

Photos we got 'em: Finally, the photo of Atticus' picture in Times Square in New York City! Also some cute pet pics, one of Joe Walla getting down to business and another of me showing off my stuff at Cairo Caravan.

In rotation this week: Lacuna Coil, Seven Mary Three, Beat Union, Rose City Kings, D-Zire, Judas Priest and Joe Walla.

Thought of the week: Get some sleep!! I've been really skimping on my zzzs for the past couple of weeks and to be honest, even though I'm a rocker chick, I'm beginning to feel it. Too many early mornings, late nights and crazy days add up and not only make you feel roadworn, but look it too! I canceled my plans last night and hit the hay early, so I'm on the mend. In the future I'm going to try to say no when I need to and not feel guilty about it... but then there's my moto "I'll sleep when I'm dead"... I just don't want to miss a thing!

Keep on rockin'
Mickie
