The US Forest Service will have its monthly Naturalist led tour on Saturday, July 26th 2007.
Due to the overwhelming interest in the Crystal Lake area, we will be repeating the Crystal Lake tour again this month. After the 9AM introduction we will be car-pooling up Hwy. 39 to the Lake, with stops along the way at Bichotta Mesa, and Valley of the Moon. We will discuss wildlife, geology, landslides, and fire ecology. This is an excellent outing for families, scout groups, or anyone interested in their local mountains. Bring a lunch, will be eating at Crystal Lake campground around 11:30.
The tour will start at 9AM and last until about 1PM, meet at the San Gabriel Canyon Environmental Education Center, which is located 0.7 miles PAST the East Fork Bridge on Hwy. 39 above the City of Azusa.
Cost is $ 5.00 per person.
Visitors should bring water, lunch, sturdy walking shoes, sun screen, insect repellent, cameras, binoculars and dress in layers for the weather (it may be warm). Hiking will not be strenuous but we will be hiking over uneven and rocky terrain. Make sure that your vehicle is in good working order , and you have a full tank of gas.
