Humane Society University to offer First Stike Workshop

Many forms of family and community violence are interrelated, including child abuse, domestic violence, elder abuse, teen violence and animal cruelty. In fact, studies during the past 25 years have demonstrated that violent offenders frequently have childhood and adolescent histories of serious and repeated animal cruelty.

So, Humane Society University will be conducting an on-site workshop called “First Strike: Connecting Domestic Violence and Animal Cruelty.” The workshop is designed to train social workers, law enforcement, family service, animal protection professionals, educators, the general public and even non-animal caretakers to recognize the connection between animal cruelty and domestic violence and to intervene effectively before violence occurs.
