NPR Music and WBGO to broadcast Bill Charlap performance tonight

NPR MUSIC and WBGO Present:

NPR Music and WBGO – www.NPR.org/music and www.wbgo.org – will exclusively broadcast and webcast a performance by Bill Charlap, one of today's most celebrated pianists, and his trio from the Village Vanguard in New York City live tonight.

Jazz musician Bill Charlap has a passion for interpretation. He especially delights in selecting the most attractive show tunes of yesteryear and rendering them with tactful, warmly familiar gestures. With his longtime cohorts Peter and Kenny Washington (no relation), who are both highly regarded sidemen in New York, Charlap returns to the Village Vanguard. The Bill Charlap Trio is a popular draw at the Vanguard, where it's a regular: Appropriately, it's also the scene of the group's latest recording.

One of the world's preeminent jazz venues, the Village Vanguard has presented nearly all of the greatest musicians in jazz since 1957. Renowned for its rich history and great acoustics, over 100 commercial albums have been recorded within the triangle-shaped basement room in New York's Greenwich Village.

Live At The Village Vanguard is a collaboration between WBGO and NPR Music presenting live broadcasts from the legendary club, both on air and streaming online. Recent concerts in the series include Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band, Guillermo Klein and Los Guachos, and Paul Motian, Bill Frisell and Joe Lovano. After each show is over, NPR Music hosts the archived recordings of all the concerts.
