Daryl Hall and John Oates to celebrate anniversary of Live From Daryl's House

In the 13th and latest edition of Live from Daryl’s House, debuting Nov. 15, Daryl Hall joins with John Oates to celebrate the groundbreaking web-show’s one-year anniversary by playing for the first time a song they insist was instrumental in bringing them together back in Philadelphia.

In the latest installment of the popular web destination, Daryl and John will spotlight Oates’ recently released solo album, 1000 Miles of Life, which he recorded in Nashville with such noted collaborators as bluegrass legends Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush, who hadn’t played together since their days in New Grass Revival.

The highlight, though, is the duo’s cover of the Memphis doo-wop obscurity, “I Want Someone,” by The Mad Lads.

“It’s the song that first brought John and I together as teenagers to form a group,” says Daryl. “We shared a love for the tune, which, in my mind, is true American folk music.”

“It was a favorite of Daryl and mine,” adds John. “We saw The Mad Lads perform the song at the Uptown Theater in Philadelphia. I remember it because they wore yellow suits with white gloves. When Daryl and I met, and began to learn a little bit about each other, we discovered we both loved it. We’ve never played it live before. This will be a first.”

Daryl and John also play four songs from Oates’ solo album, including “Ghost Town,” Oates’ haunting ode to post-Katrina New Orleans, “Change of Seasons” and the title track. The two then launch into an impromptu version of the O’Jays’ “Backstabbers” and their own “Possession Obsession.”

Live from Daryl’s House has become a destination spot for showcasing unique collaborations between Daryl Hall and the latest in up-and-coming artists as well as veteran acts.

Past episodes of the series have featured a mix of well-known performers like Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy and Finger Eleven’s James Black and Rick Jackett, as well as newcomers such as Austin, TX-based acoustic guitarist and songwriter Monte Montgomery, Philly soul singer Mutlu, Canadian techno-rockers Chromeo and MySpace pop-rock phenom Eric Hutchinson.

Live from Daryl’s House started with Daryl’s “light-bulb moment” idea of “playing music with my friends and putting it up on the Internet,” and the show has subsequently been praised by such varied publications as Rolling Stone, Daily Variety and the influential Lefsetz Letter.

Live from Daryl’s House has taken place at Hall’s residences in New York and London, as well as at the SXSW confab in Austin, TX, with plans to record future episodes at his other homes in Maine and the Bahamas.
