Mothers' Club to honor Jennifer DeVoll in Pasadena

On April 18 Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center will honor Jennifer DeVoll, Executive Director of the Pasadena Community Foundation, and The Disney Store Worldwide Headquarters at the non-profit agency’s annual benefit dinner “Read2Suceed.” Actress Joely Fisher from FOX TV’s ‘til Death will emcee the event at Pasadena’s Castle Green.

Jennifer DeVoll has served as the Executive Director of The Pasadena Community Foundation for seven years, during which time the Foundation's assets have grown significantly. Under her leadership, PCF has set up over 200 new charitable funds. PCF, Pasadena's hometown foundation for over 55 years, manages charitable funds for local families and organizations. PCF has been a supporter of Mothers’ Club since 1974, awarding over $230,000 in grants to the agency.

As a division of The Walt Disney Company, Disney Store is a leading retail destination in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan, with more than 370 locations worldwide. Disney Store's Worldwide Headquarters are based in Pasadena with more than 200 employees. Disney Store is proud to not only work in Pasadena, but support some key community organizations, including Mothers' Club through volunteerism and charitable donations.

Joely Fisher earned Golden Globe nomination for her role as the monstrously ambitious, seductive Hollywood executive “Paige” in ABC’s “Ellen.” As a rare Hollywood triple threat, she has been seen on Broadway in “Cabaret,” in a recurring role on ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” and in the Disney film “Inspector Gadget.”

All proceeds from the event will support Mothers’ Club’s two-generation learning programs for impoverished, at-risk children ages 0-5 and their parents – programs proven to develop early literacy skills in young, vulnerable children while simultaneously increasing the literacy levels of the children’s parents. Mothers’ Club recently received a top award in education from the California Community Foundation for its innovation, resilience and impact in improving the quality of life for low-income L.A. residents.

Tickets to “Read2Succeed” are $150 and include wine, hors d’ouvres, dinner, live music, and heart-felt stories about the group’s work with some of Pasadena’s most at-risk families.
Founded in 1961, Mothers' Club Family Learning Center prepares families living in isolation and poverty to succeed in school and in life. They fulfill their mission by providing FREE programs to disadvantaged families with children ages 0-5. In all programs, mothers and children learn side by side, gaining the knowledge and skills they will need to break out of poverty. National research and the agency’s own evaluation results confirm that educating a parent and child together is an irrefutable way to promote long-term, positive change within a family and a community.
