On Saturday, October 16th, from 3pm - 5pm, the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) will host a screening of THE BASEMENT with the film's Producers, Darrell Fusaro and Jeff Trujillo, in attendance..
To kick off the evening, BASEMENT fan and CNN Anchor/Host Ron Roberson, of the Emmy award winning news program LOCAL EDITION, will introduce the film with a brief live interview. Roberson will also facilitate a Q & A between the audience and the filmmakers following the screening.
THE BASEMENT chronicles Artist and Playwright Darrell Fusaro’s return home to Clifton, New Jersey, to face demons cast by the brutal 1970 mafia slaying of his beloved grandfather and union official James Fusaro.
After watching his close knit Italian-American family torn apart in decades following the murder, Darrell decides to retrace many of the original dead-end leads from the case seeking resolution to the unsolved tragedy. After hitting wall after wall in his attempt to solve the crime Fusaro decides instead to share his experience in the form of a play titled, THE BASEMENT.
His autobiographical play, THE BASEMENT (which debuted at the IIC in 2001), powerfully demonstrates his life experiences and the devastating effects murder has on a family. As THE BASEMENT grows in popularity, Darrell offers to perform the play as a benefit at his High School alma mater. With help from enthusiastic students and a cast of characters from the local community, Darrell embarks on an inspirational, shocking and surprisingly humorous journey to heal old wounds before an unsuspecting audience.
THE BASEMENT's Fusaro and Trujillo are currently featured along with filmmakers Michael Moore, Ken Burns, Al Gore and Morgan Spurlock, in the newly released book, "The Documentary Moviemaking Course" by Kevin Lindenmuth. The book is available at Amazon.com and retail bookselling outlets.
THE BASEMENT documentary is also available on Netflix. For additional information, go to: http://www.thebasementdocumentary.com/.
