Kandi releases single and to tour

KANDI is a Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter/producer/actress and entrepreneur who has 56 million CDs sold to date -- 14 platinum and 17 gold discs -- attached to her name. In addition, Kandi made history by being the first woman to win ASCAP’s Rhythm & Soul Awards as “Songwriter of the Year.” She started her career in 1993 as a teenager in the multi-platinum-selling group Xscape, has gone on to be the most favored cast member as an Atlanta Housewife and is now set to release her sophomore solo disc, KANDI KOATED, on Warner Bros. this Fall. Kandi’s lead single, “LEAVE U,” is available for sale on iTunes on October 5th and is available for purchase via the following link: http://wbr.fm/KandiLeaveUiTunes

In promotion of the disc and single, Kandi joins the “Back To Me” 30-city tour with Fantasia starting on Thursday, November 4th in Richmond, VA at the Landmark Theater and ending on Saturday, January 1st in St. Louis, MO at the Fox Theater. Also performing on the tour is Eric Benet. (tour dates to follow)

KANDI recently shot the video for the Jazze Phae-produced “LEAVE U,” this past Friday, October 1st in Atlanta. “Leave U” explains what could happen when a person stops doing the things they did to get you. The Darren Grant-directed video depicts how relationships aren’t always perfect but you should never give up on the idea of a relationship, as there is always someone out there that is perfect for you. “LEAVE U” can be heard here:

KANDI released her first solo album, Hey Kandi, to international acclaim in 2000. Ten years later she is set to release, KANDI KOATED, her sophomore album that she says is “a relationship CD” to the masses. The album features production by Neyo, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Jazze Phae, K.P. and Malay, Brian Michael Cox, Black Elvis, Drumma Boy, and St. Nick. The only feature is her Xscape bandmate Tiny who performs with Kandi on “Superwoman.”

KANDI has written on every song on KANDI KOATED and says, “This is definitely going to be a more personal record. It’s mostly about relationships. And not just about a man with a woman but life’s relationships. In particular, a record that means the world to me is called ‘Leroy Jones,’ it's about my stepfather. He is an incredible man and has meant so much to me over the years so I wanted to honor him.”

KANDI rose to stardom during her journey with her former group Xscape who released three consecutive multi-platinum discs. In late 1998, the group split, however Kandi focused on her career as a songwriter. She earned her first #1 single, penning R&B trio TLC’s smash hit “No Scrubs” and went on to write hit songs for Destiny’s Child (“Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Bug-A-Boo”) and for the likes of superstars such as Justin Timberlake, Pink, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men.

In 2000, ASCAP recognized her ability as a lyricist and became the first woman to take home its Rhythm and Soul Award for Songwriter of the Year. Kandi has a weekly blog with Interactive One’s “Hello Beautiful,” is the host of her own online TV show via Ustream called “Kandi Koated Nights,” and has a prosperous boutique called T.A.G.S in her hometown of Atlanta.
