Kelly McCune and her Americana string band, Border Radio, will perform at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena on Friday, March 11. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $18.
McCune, an Oklahoma native but long-time Pasadena resident, describes Border Radio’s style as "sophisticated string band music." Border Radio defines Americana broadly by performing music influenced by folk, country, and Western swing. McCune's voice defines the sound, and she has been compared to Patsy Cline and k.d. lang.
Border Radio has recently recorded five new songs at the venerable Village Recorders in Los Angeles, where the likes of Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, and Lucinda Williams have recorded. Shortly after their show at the Coffee Gallery the band will be embarking on their first Northern California tour.
Border Radio is McCune on lead vocals and guitar, Mike Stromberg on guitar, dobro, and vocals, Mark Indictor on fiddle, mandolin, and vocals, and Robert Staron on the bass.
Border Radio plays at the Coffee Gallery Backstage at 8 p.m. on March 11th. Tickets are $18, and reservations are recommended by calling (626) 794-2424. The address of the Coffee Gallery Backstage is 2029 N. Lake Ave., Altadena, CA.
