UCLA Dept. of Music spring concert calendar

The UCLA Department of Music is offering a variety of events for the public's enjoyment this spring. Programs include faculty and student recitals and performances of high artistic accomplishment in various genres, as well as visiting artists of national and international renown. Programs are subject to change. For updated information and confirmation of events, the public may call 310-825-4761 or visit www.music.ucla.edu.

Campus parking is available for $10 (all-day); short-term parking is also available (payable at pay stations).

For events at Schoenberg Hall and the UCLA Powell Library Rotunda, park in Lot 2 (enter the campus at Hilgard and Westholme avenues), and for events at Royce Hall, park in Lot 4 (enter the campus at Sunset Boulevard and Westwood Plaza).

'UCLA at Walt Disney Hall: A Celebration of World Music'

The UCLA Philharmonia makes its Disney Hall debut, performing a program of world music in celebration of the 50th anniversary of ethnomusicology at UCLA. The concert features the music of UC Regents' Lecturer and Mexican composer Arturo Márquez, UCLA faculty members James Newton and A.J. Racy, and Chinese composer Ge Gan-Ru. Performing with the UCLA Philharmonia will be Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, directed by UCLA faculty member Jesús Guzmán; a UCLA student jazz trio; and soloists A.J. Racy and Danilo Lozano, a UCLA alumnus. Tickets may be purchased at the UCLA Central Ticket Office or by calling 310-825-2101.

Members of the UCLA Philharmonia perform Steve Reich's "Different Trains" for string quartet and tape and the American premiere of "Death Will Come and She Shall Have Your Eyes" for mezzo-soprano, strings and tape by Israeli American composer Yotam Haber. "Death Will Come" features soloist Rose Beattie, a UCLA doctor of musical arts graduate.
