Other Creatures” is the upcoming release of notable cover songs from Brooklyn’s Chiara Angelicola aka Bird Call. The seven-song EP containing Angelicola’s versions of songs by Beck, Kate Bush, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and more is the follow-up to her previous EP of original songs, “The Animals Know” which was named a finalist in the 2010 International Songwriting Competition (judged by Tom Waits, Peter Gabriel among others) for the song “Waltz In The Snow.”
The new EP reunites the San Francisco transplant with famed producer Joel Hamilton, who has previously produced Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, and The Black Keys. “Other Creatures” first single is Bird Call’s angelic cover of the Beck favorite, “Lost Cause” . Angelicola will perform her version of this and other songs at the “Other Creatures” record release show on May 24th as part of The Deli Magazine’s “Best of NYC” Festival at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn. The Deli previously nominated Bird Call as its #1 Emerging Artist of 2010.
Born in a small, hippie suburb of San Francisco, Chiara Angelicola grew up listening in on her mother’s bossa nova band rehearsals and taking the stage in front of the fireplace to entertain her parents’ guests through her plastic microphone. Up until her venture to New York in 2009, Angelicola stirred the music scene of the Bay Area with her haunting and nostalgic vocal performances. San Francisco’s Amoeba Records store named her as an “Artist of The Month” and Angelicola placed #16 out of hundreds as an MTV2 “Bay Area Break-Out Artist.”
Bird Call’s “Other Creatures” EP will be released to all major digital download stores on May 24th.
