Yes, I know it's not really the end o' week, but it is for me. I have managed to wrangle tomorrow off to do some things I need to do and kick off my birthday weekend the right way. More on that, but first, cool stuff to share...
Friday I went to see Ennio Marchetto at the Pasadena Playhouse with my friends Angela, Ben and Adrian. Ennio is amazing and hard to explain. He uses big paper costumes to make charicatures of celebrities while lip syncing to their songs or songs that represent them. He's from Italy and very popular in Europe. I encourage you to look up his videos or visit http://www.enniomarchetto.com/
After the show, we found a little pizza place with really good pizza and nice cold brews. It was the perfect end to a fun evening.
Saturday was media day at Knott's. I took my friend John with me, as I knew he hadn't been to any theme parks in, well, forever. He rode Windseeker. I'm not hot on hanging still up high, so I sat out to watch first. John said it was OK, but made him feel dizzy and he couldn't see anything at the top because the chairs spun around too fast. Obviously I passed on it and enjoy lots of other things in the park. We had lunch at the chicken restaurant- yummy!! And then went back to John's to watch Beavis & Butthead videos.
Monday was a day that I will always remember. I got up early and fought traffic for nearly three hours to get to Glen Campbell's home in Malibu for an interview. Glen and his wife Kim were very nice and we had a nice chat, along with some information from his producer Julian on Glen's new album.
The highlight of my visit was getting the "guitar tour" from Kim. She even brought out Glen's sessions guitar-- it was worn through the finish and some of the wood! Glen told me he used the guitar to play on "Strangers in the Night" for Frank Sinatra and then played it for me. Wow! His voice and guitar licks are as good as ever and Glen looks really good too. I'll let you know when my story publishes.
Dance practice with my drummer went well that night. We're planning one more rehearsal and an open dress rehearsal before the big day. Now here's the skinny on that:
Nocturra & Ric
1:45-2:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10
Los Angeles County Fair
Community Stage in Building 4
Free with fair admission
I will be dancing with my swords, while Ric drums and there will be lots of surprises in our show, which is unlike anything we've done before. The best part of the show is that you can get a break from the crowd and the heat and spend some time in a chair in air conditioning!
If you come, please stay and say hello.
OK, back to birthday business... I have a few plans, such as hanging out with Tom and Carin, going to Catalina Island and maybe spending some time with Ren Faire Linda, but I'm not firmed up on everything yet. I'm hoping I'll have a nice weekend with lots of fun!
In rotation: Glen Campbell (the new album is good stuff!), Terrible Things, The 69 Eyes and Beat Union.
Photos we got 'em: Just a couple of pet photos I thought were cute and one surprise for you.
Thought o' the week: A birthday makes you reflect on where you've been and where you want to be in your life. It is a mixture of happiness and sadness for me. I have made an effort to live a life of no regrets, never passing an opportunity for adventure, but there are so many things I have missed out on and certain things I wish were different.
I'm going to take this birthday as the first step to a new beginning. I intend to find a way to make my dreams come true and to push any negativity out of my life. As always, I will
Keep on rockin'
Mickie

Thanks for the item on Glen Campbell. Back in the 1980's, I was a regular at Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers Sunday night gigs at Carlos O'Brien's in Riverside., which was right on my way home from weekend sessions at Orange Empire. I still remember the night Mr. Campbell sat in on pedal steel. I was sad to learn of his illness, but it sounds like he's dealing with it in a way that should be a model for all of us.
