Michael Londra is considered "one of the greatest Irish singers of our time," achieving international acclaim for his exhilarating live shows and vivid interpretations of traditional Irish music infused with pop sensibilities. His latest project, Beyond Celtic (on CD and DVD October 11, Razor & Tie) is a classic example – recorded live for PBS at the renowned California Theatre, the special recreates traditional and contemporary music with a Celtic twist. The show has aired more than 200 times across the US this summer on PBS nationwide and showcases Londra at his best: innovative, moving, and uplifting. Londra will be touring his amazing new show throughout the US in Fall 2011 and Spring 2012, including a special December-January run at San Francisco's Marines' Memorial Theatre entitled Celtic Yuletide. The run will be marked by a re-release of Londra's Christmas CD/DVD Beyond the Star (Razor & Tie).
One of Ireland’s most beloved performers, Londra's sparkling tenor soars throughout the album and live concert. Featured songs include Irish classics like "Danny Boy" – called "one of the best recordings in history" of the song – and "The Water is Wide." Joined by his own 16-piece orchestra, Celtic supergroup De Dannan featuring Irish legend Frankie Gavin (Guinness World Records' fastest fiddler), whose performance includes the Celtic-influenced rendition of "Here Comes the Sun", the internationally renowned O'Leary Sisters of Sephira, and some of the top Irish dancers in the world, Londra spans both the traditional and the contemporary with tremendous skill and versatility. These passionate talents ignite the audience on a full-force Celtic journey into the heart of Irish culture.
Said Londra of the project, "I am a tenor, a folk singer, part classical crossover, part pop, and I've picked these guest artists because I knew what they could bring to this performance. They are musical heroes and major influences on me."
Since his breakout role as the lead singer of 'Riverdance' on Broadway, Londra has developed a global reputation as one of this generation's finest Irish singers. His celebrated version of "Danny Boy" has amassed nearly 5 million views on YouTube, and has been featured alongside recordings by Andrea Boccelli, Luciano Pavarotti, and Sarah Brightman. He is the creator of Radiocelt, one of the top ten international radio stations, as well as producer and star of the touring Irish show “Celtic Fire.” In addition to his musical career, Londra is also an ambassador for global relief organization Concern Worldwide, using his performances to bring greater awareness to hunger and poverty in Haiti.
