The public is invited to the Music Center to learn the moves of popular dance crazes that have stood the test of time, including: Belly Dancing, Bollywood, the Partner Hustle, Moonwalk, Vogueing and more.
WHAT: As part of Active Arts at the Music Center, the Music Center Plaza will be host to A TASTE OF DANCE CRAZES, featuring dance lessons throughout the day for just $1 a dance. Each lesson is 20 minutes long and can be purchased on the day of the event, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Classes from 11:00-1:20 will include: 60’s Mix, Partner Hustle, Pop & Lock, Vogueing and Zumba.
Classes after 1:30 p.m. include: Belly Dancing, Charleston, Harlem Shuffle, Robot, and Single Ladies with the final Bollywood lesson at 3:25
WHEN: Saturday, September 24, 2011, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: Music Center Plaza, 135 N. Grand Avenue, Downtown Los Angeles. Check-in at registration table, located on the plaza.
WHY: Active Arts at the Music Center encourages people to participate in a series of low or no cost do-it-yourself art activities that include opportunities to dance, sing, tell stories, or make music at a variety of settings at the Music Center. Thousands of participants enjoy such activities as “Dance Downtown,” “Public Practice, “A Taste of Dance, “Get Your Chops Back,” “Drum Downtown,” “Friday Night Sing-Along,” the “Biggest Dance Ever” and the annual “Music Center Holiday Sing-Along.” The Music Center launched Active Arts at the Music Center in 2004 to respond to increased interest in the community to participate directly in art-making and to expand the role of the Music Center as a civic and cultural center in Los Angeles.
