DJ Rasadon free show in North Hollywood Aug. 14

Knitting Factory Entertainment (KFE), the 360-degree entertainment company best known for its legendary musical heritage, has added another musical artist to its management roster: DJ Rasadon, former member of the seminal hip-hip/soul crossover group Arrested Development, whose album 3 years, 5 Months and 2 Days earned two Grammys and worldwide accolades and success.

Long regarded as one of music’s most influential beat makers and beat masters, Rasadon’s talent for locking tempo and his unquenchable thirst for musical influence and creative outlets has set the course for his move from behind the drum kit to behind the mixer.

“Rasadon fits the mold for an ideal Knitting Factory Artist: that is, he breaks the mold,” says Knitting Factory Director of Brand Strategy Brad Spencer, who leads the team managing Rasadon. “He combines both great depth in his skills with a breadth of music influences and heritage. We’re looking forward to showcasing him as a solo artist and showing today’s audience his contemporary artistry.”

That starts Monday night, when urban online TV network TV One premieres the Arrested Development segment of Unsung, the acclaimed music biography show. Check out www.tvone.tv for show times; the show is available on demand following its broadcast debut.

Then, on Tuesday August 14 at 11PM, Rasadon will perform an unprecedented combination of music and fine art when he performs a simultaneous live painting and DJ set at the Knitting Factory gastropub and performance venue The Federal Bar, located at 5303 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood, CA 91601. The show is sponsored by Block Headwear and Knitting Factory Entertainment, Admission is free; 21 and over only. For more details call 818.980.2555 and visit http://www.thefederalbar.com/.

How does this work? Rasadon will have his decks set up on one side of the stage and a blank canvas and paints set on the other. He’ll start by spinning music and then step over to the paints as his mix plays on. He will paint for a few minutes and then step back behind the decks to keep driving the mix—alternating throughout the night and finishing with a complete painting and DJ set.

Rasadon says, “not limiting my DJ sets to just one style of music enables my audience to experience a world tour of musical styles just like I have over the years touring the world with Arrested Development—it’s a musical clash of world sounds and this set will be a clash of artistic endeavors.” Rasadon will also be working on new material and recording while in LA.

KFE owns the Knitting Factory venue in Brooklyn alongside concert houses in the Pacific Northwest (Boise, Idaho and Spokane, Washington), and Reno, Nevada. KFE’s record label has successfully reissued the entire catalog of Afrobeat godfather Fela Kuti, and released albums by Fela’s sons Seun and Femi, the latter garnering a Grammy nomination. The label has also partnered with Brooklyn-based Partisan Records, with renowned artists such as Deer Tick, Mountain Man, Middle Brother and Heartless Bastards. They have also signed Nervous Wreckords (Brian Karscig of Louis XIV), as well as released a cover of Fela Kuti’s "Lady" by tUnE-yArDs, Angelique Kidjo, ?uestlove from The Roots and Akua Naru. The track is a follow-up to “Red Hot + Riot,” with proceeds going to AIDS research. KFE has also added artist management to their enterprises by opening KFM- Knitting Factory Management.
