JanSport, the original outdoor gear Brand that equips people globally with quality backpacks, travel gear and collegiate apparel, today announced its partnership with The Forecastle Festival, the largest gathering of musicians, artists, and environmentalists in the Midwest, to create an online "Battle of the Bands" competition.
Beginning June 1 - Sept. 30, 2008, amateur, unsigned bands are invited to submit a song, photo and bio to www.jansport.com/forecastle. In mid-October, eight finalists will be chosen by JanSport and Forecastle, and from Oct. 15 - Dec. 10, 2008, the contest will open up to online public voting. The winner will be announced at the "Halfway to Forecastle" concert in Louisville, Kentucky Jan. 2009.
The grand prize winner will have the chance to share the stage with some of the biggest names in music and play in front of thousands of fans, press and industry reps in Louisville, KY next July.
"JanSport applauds the initiative, originality and talent of all individuals and this competition is a great way to celebrate everything that The Forecastle Festival represents," said Ann Daw, marketing director for JanSport. "Music has long been a medium for bringing people together, a characteristic at the soul of the JanSport Brand, and we look forward to seeing it all come to fruition in Louisville next July."
"This is an incredible opportunity for musicians across the country to get their music heard by thousands of endearing fans, industry representatives, media outlets, and music sponsors," said JK McKnight, producer of The Forecastle Festival. "JanSport's Battle of the Bands Competition could be the medium that takes their careers to the next level."
This year's Forecastle Festival will be held July 25-27 in Louisville, Kentucky.
