Acclaimed singer/songwriter Jolie Holland has announced a North American tour beginning October 12th in San Diego CA. Jolie will be traveling from one side of the country to the other in support of her October 7th release, the Living and the Dead. She will be supported on the tour by French anti-folk duo Herman Dune, who have shared the stage with the likes of Arcade Fire, Kimya Dawson and Of Montreal.
Co-produced with Shahzad Ismaily, the Living and the Dead features guest performers M. Ward (My Morning Jacket, She & Him) and Marc Ribot (Elvis Costello, Tom Waits) among a host of others.
"It was fun, but really a lot of work,” Jolie recently told Billboard magazine. “"It was up to your elbows in grease -- putting the car together, then taking it apart again.”
On the Living and the Dead, her third studio album, Jolie ranges far and wide, adding to her earlier take on folk and country and jazz that other distinctly American articulation, rock n roll. The results are undeniable, and early reviews have been stellar.
“Holland’s fourth – and perhaps best – album foregoes the smoky speakeasy atmosphere…for a more contemporary roots sound, which provides a more evocative backdrop for her signature vocals.” --Paste
“Jolie Holland seems poised to become the next Feist or Cat Power, her appealingly spare, classic vocals straddling folk and indie rock with the grace of a jazz singer.” – Denver Post
"Mexico City's” fittingly dusty, full of south of the border horns, Jolie losing herself in booze and candles lit for those passed on. As with her best material, after one listen you can imagine the perfect occasion for it to soundtrack.” --Stereogum
