L.A. County residents can get gifts for recycling motor oil and filters

L.A. County residents can receive free gifts and help keep the environment clean by recycling their used motor oil and filters. Why should residents recycle used motor oil and filters?

One gallon of motor oil can contaminate one million gallons of fresh water -- that's enough water for one year's supply for 50 people!*

This spring, the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works (Public Works) is hosting a series of used motor oil/filter collection events. Recycle at one of our events and you will earn free gifts, such as an oil or filter container, shop towel, and oil funnel (while supplies last). Stay tuned for upcoming event locations and dates. Residents are reminded not to mix the oil with any other liquids or materials, including water. Contaminated motor oil cannot be recycled.

Don’t worry - if you miss a collection event, simply drop-off used oil and filters at a weekend Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste collection event. You can also drop them off at a local Certified Collection Center (CCC) within the County that will typically accept up to five gallons of uncontaminated used motor oil, some will also accept used oil filter for recycling – all free of charge.
