Mumiy Troll North American debut pushed to April 7 release

Russia’s biggest band Mumiy Troll (http://mumiytroll.com/ ) announced today their debut North American release Comrade Ambassador will be distributed via DisManic and Ryko Distribution (http://t.ymlp143.com/uswavauhqafameuacauemj/click.php) on the band's own imprint, Mumiy Troll Records, pushing the release date from March 24 to April 7, 2009.

“I am so pleased DisManic and Ryko Distribution are on board to get our debut release in North America Comrade Ambassador into the hands our American and Canadian fans,” said Mumiy Troll Lead Singer Ilya Lagutenko. “We have had eight releases in Russia and Eastern Europe but this is the first time our music will be available in stores and online from California to Canada. We are committed to touring and supporting Comrade Ambassador for our Russian friends and our new American fans as well.”

Mumiy Troll took North America by storm this past January during their first ever coast-to-coast tour which found the band playing sold out shows in New York, Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver and Seattle. In Toronto, fans lined up around the block in the snow for two hours to get into the sold out show. Promoters and fans alike were impressed with the drawing power of the band, which included new American fans that were introduced to the band by friends in the Russian community. The rest of the music industry will take notice when Mumiy Troll makes their first appearance at the annual South By Southwest Music Conference (http://sxsw.com/ ) in Austin, Texas.

Confirmed shows are:
03/03 @ The Independent, San Francisco, CA
03/04 @ The Independent, San Francisco, CA
03/05 @ The Roxy, Los Angeles, CA
03/06 @ The Roxy, Los Angeles, CA
03/19 @ Speakeasy, Austin, TX (SXSW showcase)

This tour has inspired American-dwelling Russians to celebrate the culture of their motherland and introduce it to their American friends. In Washington DC, the Russian Cultural Center hosted a reception and press conference during Inauguration Week to kick off the Mumiy Troll tour.  In Los Angeles, the UCLA Department of Slavic Studies and the City of West Hollywood are celebrating Mumiy Troll’s shows with the creation of the first annual Russian Winter Festival on March 7. This event of Russian film and arts will include a screening of the Oscar-nominated short film “Lavatory Love Story” (“Ubornaia istoriia – liubovnaia istoriia”) as well as the 2008 Cannes Film Festival Winner for Best Debut “Everybody Dies, Except Me.”

“We’re incredibly lucky to have Mumiy Troll play in Los Angeles for two rare club dates at The Roxy on March 5th and 6th,” says Russian Winter Festival organizer David MacFadyen. “Mumiy Troll is the most important rock band from the world’s biggest country. Â Don’t forget that these four musicians play at massive festivals all around the world; the best way, therefore, to connect music fans all the way from Moscow to Los Angeles is to showcase Russia’s most popular outfit in such an intimate setting.”

Early reviews of Comrade Ambassador have extolled it as “delightfully fresh” (NewCity Chicago), “a vodka-chasing mix of Bauhaus and Pearl Jam” (Minneapolis Star Tribune) and “sparkling pop” (The New Yorker). Comrade Ambassador is Mumiy Troll's ninth studio release since they formed in Russia before the fall of the Soviet Union, and consists of 14 tracks taken from the band's two most recent releases, AMBA (2007) and VIII (2008), with a bonus previously unreleased Russian-language cover of The Mamas & the Papas' classic “California Dreamin’”.
