Jewel and hubby Ty Murray to appear on "Dancing with the Stars"

Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Jewel, who recently completed a national tour in support of her chart-topping country album Perfectly Clear, will appear on the eighth season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. The three-time Grammy nominee will be joined by her husband, Ty Murray. Dancing with the Stars premieres Monday, March 9th (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) followed by a second performance show on Monday, March 16th (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET). Dancing with the Stars: The Results Show debuts Tuesday, March 17th (9:00 - 10:00 p.m., ET).

“As newlyweds, Ty and I thought this would be a fun adventure, something to do together before we try and start a family,” said Jewel. “I love trying new things, and I find it just remarkable that a girl like me can go from being homeless, to having such an amazing life, full of such unique opportunities."

Dancing with the Stars, consistently a ratings-topper, is the U.S. version of BBC’s international smash hit series, Strictly Come Dancing, where celebrities are paired with professional ballroom dance instructors and compete for a coveted mirror ball trophy. The teams are judged, critiqued, and scored by a panel of dance experts – renowned Ballroom Judge Len Goodman and dancer/choreographers Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba. Tom Bergeron and Samantha Harris host.

In addition to her role on Dancing with the Stars, Jewel is partnerting with Fisher-Price and Somerset Entertainment to release her first-ever lullaby album, titled “Sweet Dreams For You,” that will be released in May 2009. The full-length album will be available at major retailers in the toy and baby departments, as well as online at jeweljk.com and iTunes.

Supporting her career launch into the country music mainstream, Jewel had quite a busy year in 2008. Her first country album Perfectly Clear debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart. She packed in a summer and fall tour with Brad Paisley, a judging seat on NBC’s Nashville Star, a live DVD release, and she married rodeo superstar Ty Murray in a private beach-side ceremony. In 2009, the singer-songwriter hit the road on a North American solo acoustic tour and has been writing and recording the upcoming “Sweet Dreams For You” album.
