Living legend Ramblin' Jack Elliott is set to make two special appearances at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica CA on April 17th and 18th. Elliott will be in Los Angeles to promote his new release A Stranger Here, out April 7th.
A Stranger Here is a timely collection of Depression-era blues songs, carefully chosen and arranged by Elliott and producer Joe Henry (Allen Toussaint, Solomon Burke, Bettye LaVette) then played with spontaneous aplomb by some of Los Angeles' most sought-after session musicians, including the incomparable Van Dyke Parks, Los Lobos' David Hidalgo and others. The results are a moody, evocative collection of blues classics, interpreted as only Ramblin' Jack Elliott can.
An early Filter Magazine review raves: "With a voice grown even deeper and more resonant in recent years, Ramblin' Jack Elliott has teamed up with producer Joe Henry to deliver a starkly dimensional and soulful collection of dark blues. Henry casts his sessions like a savvy movie director...the results has the authentic vibe of a field recording, both beautiful and brave in its purity, and sounds like something captured rather than contrived. These are dark, old blues born in a different century, but that dark night of the soul is something we all feel and know...maybe now more than ever."
