Celebrate National Boys & Girls Club Week

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena joins Boys & Girls Clubs across America this week to celebrate National Boys & Girls Club Week, March 21-27, by hosting several special events to emphasize the importance and value of the Clubs to the Pasadena community.

"Here at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena we believe that within every child there is the potential for greatness.† Despite the economic hardships faced by our Club members and their families, many of our kids will be the first in their families to graduate from high school or attend college. †With the PUSD’s cancellation of summer programs, the need for our summer education and technology programs has never been more urgent. This is especially true for our teen Club members who rely on the Club to help them build a brighter and more promising future", said Marguerite Duncan-Abrams Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena. The cost for parents to send their child to a Club is $75 per year.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena are unique in the field of child development due to five identifying characteristics. Clubs provide:

A safe place to learn and grow,
Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals,
Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences,
Hope and opportunity, and
Peer, staff and volunteer recognition.

For more than a decade, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena have celebrated Boys & Girls Club Week in a variety of ways, all with an emphasis on five core Club program areas: Character & Leadership Development; Education & Career Development; Health & Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness & Recreation.

Activities in these five core areas support Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena’s overarching goal to help each child reach their full potential and BE GREAT by securing academic success, living a healthy lifestyle and distinguishing themselves as young leaders.

Planned activities at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena this week include:

a problem solving leadership workshop hosted at the Mackenzie-Scott branch, on Monday, March 22 between 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.,

"Collage of Art", a fun day of coloring and creative design on Tuesday, March 23rd between 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., also at the Mackenzie-Scott branch.

Also, "Disco Dance Night" on Friday, March 26th between 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. hosted at the Slavik branch located at 3230 East Del Mar Blvd.
