The Lonely Forest to release album

Continuing their steady climb to prominence from modest Northwest roots, The Lonely Forest unveils its Trans Records label debut Arrows, on March 22. The album release follows a year filled with recording, touring and the release of the band’s eponymous digital-only EP.

Trans Records is the new label headed by Chris Walla, guitarist and producer for Grammy-nominated rock band Death Cab for Cutie, who found The Lonely Forest’s music so compelling he made the band his label’s very first signing. Walla produced and engineered Arrows at Sound City studio in Los Angeles, Tiny Telephone in San Francisco and his own, Portland-based studio, Alberta Court. He also mixed three tracks—“Be Everything,” “Turn Off This Song And Go Outside” and “I Don’t Want To Live There.” The balance of the album was mixed by John Goodmanson (Girls, Nada Surf, Weezer).

The Lonely Forest is enjoying the steady journey from Northwest DIY favorites, bolstered by sold out shows at Seattle’s Showbox and a coveted slot at Sasquatch! Music Festival in May, to national touring act playing for fans from coast to coast. They are confirmed to play SXSW in March, immediately launching into a national tour in support of this release.

“The Lonely Forest proves to me,” says Walla, “In a time full of throwbacks and references and meta-references, that nothing can beat a focused, bulletproof guitar rock band with amazing songs. I didn't start a label for nothing.”

The band’s powerful blend of melodic pop songwriting played with a muscular, anthemic rock approach, is capturing the attention of a wide array of listeners. From the outset The Lonely Forest—singer/guitarist/keyboardist John Van Deusen, guitarist Tony Ruland, drummer Braydn Krueger and bassist Eric Sturgeon— has been about inclusion. At its core, the music features Van Deusen’s soaring vocals and indelible melodies wrapped tightly around Ruland’s expansive guitar anchored by a heavy yet nimble rhythm section. Having made their mark as a regional delicacy with three prior records, the band never imagined a swift and organic rise to national distinction.
