Cal Phil benefit in Pasadena Sunday

Cal Phil Treasures, a fundraiser benefiting the San Gabriel Valley’s favorite orchestra, is taking place at point08, Old Pasadena's jazz club, on Sunday May 22, 2011 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. The event, which happens to coincide with the late great Miles Davis' birthday, will feature one of a kind items including art, wine and jewelry that will be available to attendees by silent auction and raffle.

point08 is hosting the fundraiser along with acclaimed Old Pasadena Wine Bar and Restaurant redwhite+bluezz. To date, the Pasadena destinations have collectively raised more than five million dollars for non-profits including 5 Acres, Pasadena Mental Health, Huntington Memorial Hospital, Pasadena Education Network, Hathaway Sycamores, Planned Parenthood, D’Veal Family Services, Tournament of Roses and numerous other community organizations.

“Cal Phil Treasures is guaranteed to be an exciting evening for attendees, Cal Phil, redwhite+bluezz and point08,” said André Vener, a partner in both redwhite+bluezz and point08, as well as former CEO of Cal Phil. “It is always an honor and thrill to be involved with events that benefit such worthy causes.”

Some of the areas top Jazz artists will be performing during the event. point08 has quickly become the new hot spot and ultra-swanky venue in the area and the only local jazz and supper club offering free live music five nights a week. An ideal location to hold a benefit worthy of the arts, point08 also boasts five unique areas for patrons to enjoy, including seats at the lighted onyx bar, dining spaces close to the stage, communal tables and a VIP area called Cloud 9, as well as the largest outdoor patio in Pasadena. point08 is located behind redwhite+bluezz at 95 East Green Street, Pasadena, CA 91105.

The CalPhil Foundation is committed to bringing excellent and professional performances of great music to the widest possible audience. To achieve this, Cal Phil works to provide access to performances; serve as a major cultural resource; achieveregional, national and international recognition for the California Philharmonic; provide free and low-cost educational outreach concerts and programs for all people; encourage community involvement in the organization beyond concert attendance, through volunteer participation, network groups and leadership role opportunities.

Cal Phil continues its popular concerts with its Summer Orchestra series Cal Phil Festival on the Green-Picnic Concerts Under The Stars on Saturday evenings at the beautiful outdoor venue The Arboretum followed by Sunday matinee performances at the Music Centers Walt Disney Concert Hall. The highly-anticipated series begins the weekend of June 25 and June 26 with Beethoven and The Beatles featuring The Fab Four. Andrew Lloyd Webber Meets Puccini at The Arboretum July 3 and at Walt Disney Hall on July 9 as phantom goes to the opera with such classics as Phantom of the Opera to La Boheme. July 23 and 24 will have people Dancing Under The Stars to everything from Boloreo to Glenn Miller to Black Swan from Swan Lake. Rodgers and Hammerstein In Europe features Broadway and the Classics August 6 and 7 with That’s Entertainment paying homage to some of music’s greatest moments such as Fiddler on the Roof and Titanic on the season’s final concerts August 20 and 21.
