Great Cynics to release new EP

The UK's GREAT CYNICS have premiered the latest song "14 Coleman St." off their new EP titled In the Valley on Altpress.com today. The song can be streamed at: http://www.altpress.com/features/entry/premiere_great_cynics_14_coleman_st.

In the Valley will be out on Kind of Like Records on February 28, 2012. The first single, titled "In the Valley", received its premiere with Mike Davies on the BBC's Radio 1 Punk Show, can be heard along with an unofficial video and pre-order information for the EP at http://www.greatcynics.com.

Early reviews for In the Valley have been overwhelmingly positive, with Alter the Press calling the first single "a short driver of a song packed with hopeful lyrics and vocals that really make it stand out." Decoy Music said the EP "is a simple pleasure with a lot of charm. It’s almost cruel that this EP is an anemic seven minutes and change, because I could easily listen for a few hours."

While the band started with just Giles Bidder (guitar/vocals) playing and touring solo on acoustic guitar, it grew to include Bob Barrett (drums) and Iona Cairns (bass) in order to fully realize the potential of the music Bidder created.

"When I was playing solo, there were some songs I recorded in a friend's bedroom at his parents' house a couple of years ago - with one acoustic guitar, no overdubs - that I didn't want to get lost in the years," says Bidder. "So we took them into the studio and hammered them out as a band."

Great Cynics burst onto the radar with the June 2011 release of their debut album Don't Need Much on Kind of Like Records in the US and Household Name Records in the UK. AOL Music heralded the band's "punk and pop teeth on this debut record, full of brash sing-along choruses," while Big Cheese Magazine called the album "a confident and accomplished debut". During the Fall of 2011, Great Cynics travelled to the US to play a much anticipated set at Gainesville's The Fest 10 alongside a handful of East Coast dates. Of late, the band has toured the UK and has scheduled several upcoming UK tour dates with Crazy Arm, Apologies, I Have None, and Los Broncos.

Great Cynics is Giles Bidder (vocals/guitar), Bob Barrett (drums) and Iona Cairns (bass).
