Navitat Canopy Adeventures season in Wrightwood opens March 31

Southern California thrill-seekers take note.

NAVITAT CANOPY ADVENTURES, a high-adventure zip line canopy tour in the San Gabriel Mountains, launches the 2012 season on March 31.

New this season at NAVITAT is a heart-pumping free-fall rappel at the end of the mile-and-a-half-long course that also features 10 zip lines ranging from 200 to 1,500 feet in length -- including one that soars 300 feet above the canyon floor.

“Spring is here, and we’re ready for a new season of awesome adventure in the San Gabriel Mountains,” said Caley Bowman, Marketing Manager at NAVITAT-Wrightwood. “Our tour gives visitors a breathtaking view of the region’s rugged natural beauty and a big rush with elements like the zips and free-fall rappel.”

The new free-fall experience comes during the third and final rappel element on the course. Guests are attached to special auto belay equipment that allows them to leap off the tree-based platform, 48 feet up, and free fall 10 feet before the device catches and lowers them to the ground.

Guests who prefer a more controlled descent from the treetops can opt for a traditional rappel from the platform.
“I think our guests will find that the free-fall is an amazing end note on what is already an epic tour,” said Bowman.

Also new at NAVITAT for the 2012 season:

Open since July 2011, NAVITAT CANOPY ADVENTURES is located in Wrightwood, Calif., just 90 minutes northeast of Los Angeles and near the popular Mountain High winter resort. Awarded “Best of L.A.” honors by L.A. Weekly and CBS Los Angeles, the tour has been featured on “Conan” and as the backdrop of Geico’s Maxwell the Ziplining Pig commercial.

The original NAVITAT tour is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. USA TODAY called it “One of 10 Great Zip Lines in the U.S.” in 2010.

NAVITAT tours begin March 31 and run daily through the end of November. Regular tour price is $109 per adult and $99 per youth under 18. Weight and health restrictions apply.
