Eating is usually prohibited in a concert hall. But food is best enjoyed when all five senses are stimulated. Woodwind trio Third Wheel has been taking cutting-edge chamber music out of the confines of the concert hall for the past 5 years; now they are taking the music into a restaurant and matching up the menu with compositional selections.
Executive Chef Paul Rosenbluh of Firefly Bistro in South Pasadena has partnered with Third Wheel to create this entirely unique concert-and-dining experience on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Rosenbluh will create an exclusive three-course dinner menu that is designed to enhance, highlight and complement the evening’s musical program. Additionally, specially paired wine selections from Blacksmith Cellars will be available.
Hosts Third Wheel will welcome opening act Fiato String Quartet. Fiato will perform a program ranging from contemporary music by John Corigliano to classical standards by Felix Mendelssohn. Taking the lead on local and living composers, Third Wheel will play music by Los Angeles writers Mitch Glickman (of the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra) and Garth Herberg (of indie rock band The Janks). The two groups will join forces for a combined finale.
Advance reservations are strongly recommended. Contact Firefly Bistro at 626-441-2443 to make a reservation. The entire dinner and concert is just $50. There is a concert-only option for $20 that includes a glass of wine. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will begin promptly at 6 p.m.
