Disenchanted! in West Hollywood Dec. 3 and 4

Musical Theatre of Los Angeles is honored to present a benefit concert of DISENCHANTED!, a new musical featuring the original fairytale princesses  from iconic childhood storybooks, and comically kvetching about the exploitation they’ve suffered in today’s popular culture. The concert will be held at the El Portal Theatre on Monday, December 3rd (preview concert) and Tuesday, December 4th (benefit concert) at 8pm and will benefit Musical Theatre of Los Angeles and the theatre will proudly donate 5% of ticket sales to world-renowned, Friendly House LA, the oldest women’s recovery home in the US.

DISENCHANTED! stars eight bold women who give voice to the princesses as they storm the castle against today’s princess complex. These women are far from being damsels in distress. Beloved characters such as Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Belle, Hua Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, and The One Who Kissed the Frog are brought to life, as they sing the truth about their once-upon-a-time.

DISENCHANTED!, written by Dennis T. Giacino, enjoyed sold out runs in Orlando, Fla., winning the 2011 Orlando International Fringe Festival’s Producer’s Award and Patrons’ Pick. DISENCHANTED! continued to captivate the hearts of audiences and collect seven additional “Best Of” awards from the city’s media outlets. Since then, the show has been staged in Sarasota, Fla. (twice), Syracuse, N.Y., Rochester, N.Y., Missouri, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. This past summer, the NYC cabaret version, “Bitches of the Kingdom!,” provided press with a preview of what the Off-Broadway audience will experience in 2013 as DISENCHANTED! makes its way back to the Big Apple.

Directed by Fiely Matias, Giacino’s collaborator for 20 years, DISENCHANTED! has received the same roaring responses in every city it has performed – sold out performances, standing ovations, extended runs and rave reviews. The New York Post declared the show “riotous! ‘Bitches of the Kingdom’ boasts side splitting performances by a talented ensemble. Walt Disney would spin in his grave.”

DISENCHANTED!’s Honorary Committee includes Bruce Vilanch (comedy writer, songwriter and actor, six-time Emmy Award-winner, Hollywood Squares); Romy Rosemont (actress, Glee); Sally Struthers (actress, two-time Emmy Award-winner, All in the Family); Christine Woods (actress, FlashForward), Judy Norton (actress and theater director, The Waltons) and Lou Mulford (actress, writer, producer, Mad Men).
