Last weekend was on the quiet side except for a wonderful drive in my convertible (filled with good tunage, of course) down to the beach and along Pacific Coast Highway.
Monday I caught Sligo Rags at the University of La Verne. Their set was a lot of fun and I had the opportunity to interview them after their show for an upcoming story. They will be at the Fret House in Covina at the end of the month.
Tuesday I spoke with Daily Monster artist Stefan Bucher about his work and the splash it's caused on the Web. Check out http://www.dailymonster.com/ I also talked with Chef Joey Altman. He's coming to Caltech in Pasadena in April to impart some cooking wisdom and it's free! http://www.events.caltech.edu/
Today, you should take a visit to http://www.sgvn.com/ to learn about the Buccaneers, a Canadian group currently doing some shows in SoCal. They're folky, yet edgy and lots of fun. There you will also find a story on J.Walt Adamczyk, an artist who has developed a new media. He draws to accompany present illustrations to music, sort of like a film. It's hard to explain, but his works' title comes close, "Spontaneous Fantasia." He's at the Planetarium in Glendale a lot.
Tonight I'm going with my brother to the Hub in Colton. It's bike night and we plan to peruse the show seeking some ideas on what else we might like to borrow to dress up my Triumph. Jason is rebuilding it for me and he's getting ansy to ride it. I think we might actually finish it by summer. Anyway, Joe Walla is playing at the show - one of my favorite bands, led by one of the best guitarists around - so we're doubly excited about getting out. Check out http://www.joewalla.com/ for more info.
Saturday I will be helping my friend Carin with a sort of "While You Were Out." Her hubby is going to take her father out for the day while Carin, my mom and I give his digs a little lift. We're going to spruce up his patio and add some nice touches to the inside of his new house too. Nothing too drastic, though, because we want to encourage him to make it home. He moved in, but hasn't settled, so we're hoping this will help.
Sunday will find me once again at Irwindale Speedway for racing school. I'm hoping that the track won't be wet and I'll actually get behind the wheel this time!
Photos we got 'em: Yes, I'm back to cute pets, along with a pic of my bike and one of Joe Walla. Enjoy!
In rotation this week: Tom Petty, Orange Sky, Aryeon (Arjen Luccassen), The Randies, Offspring, Dio, Through You, Lillian Axe and 69 Eyes.
Thought of the week: Don't sit on your butt!! I'm not talking about exercise, I'm talking about motivation and making something of your life. I was talking with a friend yesterday who has gone back to college and was whining about the stress of taking classes four days a week. He's single, in his 40s, doesn't work and his family is supporting him while he goes for a degree and teaching credentials. He made me kind of mad because I don't have patience for someone who is handing everything and still complains about how hard life is... See, I was on my own at 16, attending college full-time and working anywhere from 1-3 jobs to survive. Sleep? Social life? Puh-lease! I was determined to get my degree in four years, which I did and graduated with honors. Yeah, now get off your butt!!
Keep on rockin'
