Oil, like Public Enemy and contemporaries such as Immortal Technique, reflects a burgeoning movement of emcees and artists that call attention to a generation complicit in the perversion of their own culture and, inevitably, the reinforcement of age-old stereotypes under the guise of “entertainment.”
