Danny DeVito, Danny Glover and Edward James Olmos have confirmed to their participation in the staged reading of The World of Nick Adams, with stories by Ernest Hemingway, adapted by A.E. Hotchner and original music by Aaron Copland performed by the San Francisco Symphony.
They join already confirmed cast members Tom Hanks, Jack Nicholson, Julia Roberts and Bruce Willis in a performance to benefit THE PAINTED TURTLE on October 27, 2008 at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall.
The Painted Turtle is an innovative camp and family care center for children with life-threatening illnesses. Located in California, The Painted Turtle is a member of Paul Newman’s Association of Hole in the Wall Camps. The camp seeks to reach beyond illness to inspire children with life-threatening diseases to become their greater selves. The camp seeks to provide a year-round, life-changing environment for these children and their families that allow children to participate in an authentic camp experience by supporting their medical needs and offering their families care, education, and respite. No child or family pays to attend The Painted Turtle. There is no billing department.
In order to deliver around-the-clock medical care in our recreational camp setting, we rely on California’s top pediatricians, specialists and nurses. Some of our Founding Hospitals and Medical Advisory Board members include: Dr. Vipul Mankad, Children’s Hospital and Research Center at Oakland; Drs. Ken Cox, Lorry Frankel, and Alan Gianotti, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford; Dr. Anthony Phillips and Judie Boehmer, RN, UC Davis Children’s Hospital; Drs. Sam Hawgood and Amy Houtrow, UC San Francisco Children’s Hospital.
As The Painted Turtle strives to meet the needs of families from Northern California and beyond, it is always happy for the chance to share their mission and invite others to get involved. This should be a truly spectacular and singular event that will specifically focus on The Painted Turtle’s campers, volunteers, friends and supporters in the Bay Area.
