NPR offers Webcast of Randy Newman concert

NPR Music will webcast a complete concert by Oscar-winning singer-songwriter Randy Newman beginning Tuesday, August 5 at noon (ET), offering the entire show for free streaming at www.NPR.org/music The concert – recorded on July 23 at the Largo in Los Angeles – features Newman on all 10 tracks of his forthcoming album, Harps & Angels. This will be the only webcast from his summer tour.

Newman is known as one of America’s wittiest and most satirically biting songwriters, and for his distinct, southern-styled piano playing. During the concert webcast, Newman revisits many standards and classics, performing “I Love L.A.,” “You Can Leave Your Hat On” and “Louisiana 1927.”

Today, Newman also takes a turn at spinning records as a guest DJ on the popular NPR Music program All Songs Considered. (His picks include songs by The Beatles, Ray Charles, Toscanini and LaVern Baker.) On Tuesday, August 5, he talks about his new album with host Melissa Block on the newsmagazine All Things Considered. NPR Music frequently live webcasts concerts from venues across the country as part of its expanding “Live in Concert” series, which has featured more than 100 live events to date.
