Omar to appear at DNA on Musiq 4 Hunger benefit tour

On Thursday August 15th, DNA lounge presents British soul icon Omar in his return to the US for what promises to be a funky and spirited performance. In the 1990s, before Amy Winehouse, Estelle and Adele redefined the British neo-soul sound, Omar brought England's R&B stateside and built a loyal and dedicated following. Now, after the British soul resurgence, Omar comes to the US to remind fans where the movement began.

Omar's first live concert in San Francisco since 2004 will begin with flare: a sumptuous collection of fashionably clad bodies sashaying to sexy R&B grooves for what has been dubbed, Soul on the Runway.

Style, soul sounds and sex appeal will merge as the jump off of a monthly soiree that finds a bevy of young stunners rocking the latest in couture and street wear as a prelude to a national recording artist belting and crooning R&B and soul music before a diverse and stylish crowd.

Omar, who has worked with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Angie Stone, Common, Erykah Badu, Syreeta Wright and Estelle, among others. He has been making music for more than 21 years. Omar's openness to the artistry of others and to the influence of other cultures has assisted in creating his distinct sound, a sound which draws upon hip hop, funk, Latin jazz. Omar has been the darling of soul lovers since the beginning of his successful 16 year recording career and did not disappoint when he released his album "Sing (If You Want It)" in 2006, to rave reviews.

Recently voted "most multi-talented musician" by the Eastbay Express, multi-instrumentalist Kev Choice will follow the fashion with a rare acoustic set before West African hip-hop artist, Tabi Bonney, son of Afro-funk superstar Itadi Bonney takes the stage. Tabi's musical genes, mixed heritage and unique upbringing (he was born in West Africa and raised in Washington, D.C.) has aided him in creating a distinctive brand of hip-hop which led to opening for the likes of Outkast, LL Cool J, 112 and Cam'ron. He also directed and recorded with R&B Jive Recording artist Raheem Devaughn.

Recently added to an already impressive bill, fashion and celebrity icon Taz Arnold of the bi-coastal super producer group Sa-Ra Creative, will be rocking the crowd behind the decks with his eclectic palate of musical selections.

In support of a great evening of music, the Musiq 4 Hunger benefit tour will be accepting canned food donations from patrons at the door. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 DOS; they are also available online at http://www.dnalounge.com/.
