California Rural Legal Assistance to honor Cheech Marin, Los Lobos and Frank Romero

California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA), celebrates 43 years of assistance to California's most vulnerable. CRLA is honoring actor Cheech Marin, Latin music icons Los Lobos and legendary artist Frank Romero at their Tequio Awards gala on Monday, February 9, 2009 from 6:30 pm, being held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills. This year’s event will celebrate CRLA's supporters in the arts and musical communities. Chicano icon Cheech Marin, musical legends Los Lobos and celebrated artist Frank Romero are being singled out for their consistent generosity to the community served by CRLA.

The event will feature live performances by Los Lobos and Upground, a live art auction of museum quality offerings curated and led by Chicano art expert, Armando Duron, and a silent auction featuring the work of over 30 up and coming Chicano and Latino artists, as well as high ticket items from the Conga Room and Harley Davidson for the rockers.

Cheech's long-time comic partner Tommy Chong will present the award to Cheech and Ry Cooder and Carlos Mencia will be among other celebrities making appearances and presentations.

In attendance will be Latino celebrities, and movers and shakers from the world of music, politics, law and finance.

Past honorees include Salma Hayek, Carlos Santana and Deborah Santana.

Sponsors include LACMA, Harley Davidson, Margarita King, and La Opinion.
The artwork to be auctioned off at the event will be provided by acclaimed artists including stars of the Cheech Marin Chicano Collection, Frank Romero, George Yepes, and Patssi Valdez.
