The Latin Experience is coming to Mama Juanas

Bikabur and Friends Productions announces The Latin Experience, a rebirth of the alternative Latin music scene every Wednesday starting in February at the popular Mama Juanas Latin Lounge. Due to the harsh economic downturn, musicians are returning to the grassroots-style of self-promotion, banning together to help keep the Latin music scene alive and growing. With many emerging bands on the move and less opportunities to showcase their talent, established performers are extending a hand in the true sense of community by mentoring others and promoting their art form to the public.

This do-it-yourself attitude is spearheaded by established musician and vocalist Gabriel Gonzalez whose successful career spans the gamut of television, film, music videos, commercials, theater and concerts throughout the world. He is an internationally known and accomplished actor, singer, songwriter, arranger and more recently, producer.

"The Latin music scene is as diverse as Los Angeles itself and yet we are bonded through the interwoven experiences of black, brown, indigenous, and others cultural influences that shape who we are today. My goal is to showcase this diversity and celebrate the enduring voices and sounds of this beautiful culture," said Gonzalez.

Leading the lineup is Gonzalez's sister and established artist in her own right, Claudia Tenorio-Gonzalez, aka Cava. Booked for all four Wednesdays in February, her work continues the evolution of Latin music in Los Angeles. Her melodic voice communicates a strong-willed feminine energy that is simultaneously sultry and maternal. In addition, DJ Gina will spin some of the best Latin music from Afro-Cuban to Mexican banda. Providing the backdrop to the rebirth of Latin music is Angel Acordagoitia, muralist whose company, Immortal Murals, designs custom murals to private and corporate entities.

March will witness a mix of performers including Domingo Siete, Quincy McCrary, and Montecarlo 76 with every third Wednesday thereafter featuring a friendly battle-of-the-bands showcasing two emerging Latin bands competing for the cheers of the crowd.

The on-going Latin Experience will include other acts such as Mentiritas, Shadow Jaguar, Quetzal, as well as diverse fine artists and community participation. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/gabrielgonzalez, www.mamajuanas.com or call 818.505.8636.
