The Trews continue to solidify their standing as one of Canada's most popular and successful rock bands, as evidenced by two nominations for the 2009 Juno Music Awards – for Best Group and Best Rock Album. The group – which includes vocalist Colin MacDonald, guitarist John-Angus MacDonald, bassist Jack Syperek, and drummer Sean Dalton - is preparing a U.S. release of April 7, 2009 (Bumstead / MRV / Set-Up) for the album that is up for the aforementioned award, 'No Time for Later,' and its lead-off single, "Paranoid Freak."
"We just found out this morning that we are nominated for two Juno awards," enthuses Colin MacDonald. "We are thrilled with this news, we've always been very proud of this album and we're very happy that it's getting recognized."
The Nova Scotia conceived and Toronto-based group has also earned nominations at the 2005 and 2004 Juno Awards, in addition to winning the 2008 Best Hard Rock Song in the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards and the 2007 Favorite Rock Artist & Group of the Year at the 2007 Indie Awards, plus being nominated for 2006's Best New Band by SPIN.com.
Additionally, accolades from others continue to pour in. Kindah Mardam Bey at AnE Vibe described 'No Time for Later' as being "Jam packed with brilliant tracks set for the charts - when rock music is this good, even I could listen to it all day," the Calgary Sun called the album "A regular masterpiece of rock n' roll," while Creative Loafing raved, "Exciting, brash crunch rockers who connect like prime Humble Pie."
With their homeland already conquered, the group has their sights set on spreading the word throughout the U.S., as evidenced by a message from the band specifically to their stateside admirers.
"We're very proud of this album and we can't wait to share it with our American fans. We hope you will like this album as much as we do!"
