Bertie Higgins releases "Captiva"

Bertie Higgins is one of music’s most enduring storytellers and adventurists. Since the early 1980s, his songs have transported audiences to the tropics, over the high seas, and into fantastic romances. And now he’s released a true labor of love – CAPTIVA – on which he pays tribute to the songs and artists that have inspired and influenced his long, landmark career.

Bertie has been touring and performing since the ‘60s, when he honed his skills as a drummer with Tommy Roe, opening up for superstars like the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys and Roy Orbison, among others. But he is easily best known for his 1982 #1 hit “Key Largo,” which became an international sensation. His double platinum album CASABLANCA offered the hit title track and “Just Another Day in Paradise.”

For the past several years, Bertie and his group, The Band of Pirates, have toured extensively around the globe. Besides maintaining a rigorous schedule of one-nighters, he also makes regular appearances on the Las Vegas strip and in Branson. He is named in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and displayed in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon. He is an accomplished screenwriter/ novelist and actor, having just completed his second feature film. He has made numerous TV talk show and music variety show appearances around the world, including the VH1 and CBS This Morning. He was also invited to perform the patriotic anthem “Flag’s on Fire” on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.

Bertie’s new record, CAPTIVA, is a collection of great American pop classics, such as “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Blue Bayou,” as filtered through Bertie’s brand of Trop Rock. It also includes a special remake of the still oft-downloaded “Key Largo” which features original guest vocalist Cheryl Wilson.
