2009 will see GLOBAL INHERITANCE (GI) expand its reach during a very busy spring, including stops at leading North American music and green festivals including the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach: California’s Country Music Festival. GLOBAL INHERITANCE -- a 501c3 non-profit organization -- is working to empower individuals worldwide to think and act creatively in solving global imbalances by establishing unique initiatives pushing for progressive social change.
Through green technology, the arts and interactivity, GLOBAL INHERITANCE is reinventing activism to a new generation looking to make a difference in their communities and beyond. The organization has become a fixture among North America’s leading music festivals and events including the Virgin Festivals in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and Baltimore, SXSW and UMF, in addition to working with the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and the ESPN Summer X Games for the past seven years.
Both the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival (America’s most critically acclaimed music festival taking place in Indio, CA on April 17, 18 & 19, with performances by Paul McCartney, The Killers, The Cure and Morrissey) and Stagecoach: California’s Country Music Festival (set for April 25 & 26, with performances by Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Reba and Kid Rock) take place at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA and will feature several GLOBAL INHERITANCE exhibits.
In addition to the popular Carpoolchella and 10-for-1 bottle exchange programs, new exhibits include GI’s TRASHed:: Art Of Recycling bins. These are artistic designs of recycling bins that are then integrated into the festival grounds to encourage recycling and provide inspiring new ways to view artwork. An inspiring example of functional art, 30 of these bins will be on the festival grounds. Post show, the bins will be donated to the Los Angeles School District.
Also onsite will be Energy FACTory bikes: specially outfitted bikes that create energy as festival go-ers pedal. As part of the Energy FACTory bike display at Coachella, GI is hosting Tour De Caddy Shack, whereby attendees can ride the bikes to power TV’s showing the film Caddy Shack. The individual powering both films with the best time will win a Coachella gold cart.
Another highlight is 18 & Up, the first-ever renewable energy customized Golf Cart collection. These Golf Carts will not only operate on solar, biodiesel, switch grass-based ethanol and wind modes of energy, but each cart will be redesigned to represent different artists & genres performing at the Coachella/Stagecoach festivals. The goal of the 18 & Up project is to transform a staple mode of transportation in the Coachella Valley into a mobile alternative energy exhibit. Over the past two years, Global Inheritance has created the Energy FACTory to educate individuals onsite about the potential of alterative energy. This year, GLOBAL INHERITANCE will apply this technology and provide a fleet of Golf Carts never before seen in the western world.
GLOBAL INHERITANCE will be a part of several other Southern California events coming this spring, starting with various activities at the TRASHed @ The Camp space in Costa Mesa, CA throughout March (http://www.myspace.com/camptrashed).
On April 4, the organization will be featured at The Hive Gallery & Studios in Downtown Los Angeles for Think Big--A Traveling Exhibit of 40 Mini Recycling Bins by 40 of Los Angeles’ finest artists. An Energy FACTory bike and the wind-powered golf cart from the 18 & Up exhibit will also be showcased at the San Diego Science Festival on April 4.
Beginning June 7, GI will run their Tour Rider initiative for the Hollywood Bowl’s summer concert series for the fourth year in a row. The Tour Rider initiative addresses the chronic traffic problems and pollution from gridlock traffic at large venues for concerts and festivals. Tour Riders are attendees that carpool, use Park & Ride programs and/or take public transportation to a Tour Rider sponsored event. Tour Riders receive an array of perks ranging from access to VIP ticket lines, private music showcases, gift bags, tickets to museums and other local events.
